Meet Tommy Carr of Red Carpet Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Carr.

Hi Tommy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has played a huge role my whole life. I started playing the piano at a young age and learned how to play the violin, trumpet, guitar, drums, etc. I knew at a young age that music would be my chosen career path. After playing in many local rock bands, I put down the guitar and started singing a lot more, originally just for fun. I started going to karaoke nights after I got off work. From there, I knew I wanted to be a DJ/KJ. I slowly started learning the ins and outs of the DJ world. The same person I saw running karaoke eventually became my employer. He and his partner gave me my first career opportunity as a DJ entertainer, and I am grateful that they took me under their wing.

Over the years, I built a name for myself with that company. From doing karaoke nights at bars to DJing at weddings, there was no doubt in my mind that I was doing what I knew I wanted to do. I had many other great opportunities in different fields, but they always came back too music. I was a restaurant general manager and was offered a supervisor position in a hospital. Both careers I enjoyed, but they weren’t what I loved to do.

After many years with the company that took me in, the pandemic hit. As an entertainer, our careers to a massive hit. During the early stages of the pandemic, the company decided to call it quits. I however, was not ready to throw in the towel. I contacted my good friend and offered him an opportunity to start up our own entertainment company. He, funny enough, was thinking the same thing. The other employees of the other company decided to tag along for the journey and join the company as well. From there, Red Carpet Entertainment was born! We now have many karaoke and DJ gigs from Anne Arundel County, Howard County, and Carroll county. We also have had the honor of being the entertainment for many couples big days. We have provided entertainment in Vegas and have been offered gigs all over the US. The company may be new, but the experience is not. I have a fantastic team that continues to grow and improve. Each of our team members is very talented, and I can’t think of a better team I’d rather be a part of. We have a goal that we are well on our way to achieving. We want to be a one-stop-shop for all events. From DJs to a make-up artists, to photographers and more! Red Carpet Entertainment will be a name to watch out for. And I can’t wait to share this journey with my team.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a struggle. When I first started in the DJ/KJ world, there were already big names making it hard for me to make my own. I took gigs I didn’t want for a price I wasn’t happy with.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Red Carpet Entertainment?
Our company makes a local weekly name for ourselves, running karaoke and djing at local bars all over MD. While we love our weekly gigs, we specialize in weddings. We take huge pride in ensuring couples big days are ones they brag about to their friends! DJ is (in my opinion) the biggest part of a wedding. If you have a DJ with no energy, no charisma, and can’t read a crowd, the event’s mood will reflect it. If you have a DJ that can keep everyone on the dance floor and making you want the event to go on longer, then you as an entertainer have done your job well, and your clients will love you. You’re not just a client but a friend before, during, and after our events! We will be dancing on the dance floor and partying with you!

Is something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
When I played in bands, I got offers to share stages with well-known record-labeled bands. I miss the stage playing in a band but love my career even more.
