Meet Tiffany Hembry of Freedom’s Place

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Hembry.

Hi Tiffany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello. I am Tiffany Hembry, the Founder, and CEO of Freedom’s Place, Inc. A non-profit organization created to help young adults create their best life! The idea of this organization began from a conversation at an event that my sorority, Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. hosted. The conversation led to a young woman explaining a faith-based community center that changed her perspective on life. This story inspired me to create an organization that would assist young people/ adults with discovering their desired trajectory in life. From this new inspiration, I began to host small groups in my home with the focus on helping others visualize an abundant life. Throughout that time, God laid it on my heart to expand these groups to the community. During Covid-19, I had the opportunity to speak with some amazing young adults to pitch the formation of Freedom’s Place. They graciously agreed to assist and now we are here!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road at all! Creating a non-profit during Covid-19 pandemic has brought forth many challenges that were unique as well as that are common for small businesses. We ran into challenges with getting our 501(c) 3 status due to creating this organization virtually and lacking knowledge and the proper resources for this legal status. We were blessed to be able to receive assistance from the Newsome Group, Inc. with our formation process. In navigating in this virtual world as this has been our “new normal”, we found that we were having trouble engaging in the Greater Baltimore Community to create a brand and name for ourselves as well as getting our pilot programs off the ground. With restrictions that were previously imposed, we were unable to go out into the community as we would have liked. Similar to the other challenges, we have encountered barriers with our fundraising efforts and securing funding for our organization.

We stand hopeful that once we are able to safely go back into the community, Freedom’s Place will thrive with community engagement and funding opportunities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Freedom’s Place, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that was created to assist young adults (ages 18-30) in their self-discovery journey to an abundant life. We use a holistic approach called W.I.S.E. where we educate young adults about mental and physical wellness, interpersonal relationships, spirituality, and economics (financial literacy). It is our desire to create a safe learning and growing environment for our young adults. Our vision is to have a community center where young adults can come to get the support, love, and freedom needed to thrive in life. We are most proud of the curriculum that we have tailored for young adults of this generation. And we can’t wait to unveil what we have created! What sets Freedom’s Place, Inc. apart from others is the fact that most of our facilitators and board members are also young adults that are navigating through their self-discovery journey as well while using the same holistic approach.
