Meet Tangi Singleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tangi Singleton.

Hi Tangi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Destined for Greatness Mentoring and Outreach Program all started 10.5 years ago when I noticed that many things I had growing up as a kid were slowly disappearing, some even becoming completely obsolete. As a mother of two, I wanted to give my children something to do with their friends. My house was always the spot for all the neighborhood children and my children’s friends; truthfully, it still is. My passion for mentoring children came from these everyday interactions with the children and listening to what it was that they wanted and needed. From there, I made it my mission to work with youth and the community with every fiber of my being.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always a smooth road when starting. Especially funding and more was always the most challenging part. However, I am the type to figure things out no matter what, so I use my connections and relationships with other business owners to help secure funding, or I handle the bill myself. Blessings come from pressing on, and I must say that I’ve been extremely blessed through all the challenges.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Director and Lead Mentor for Destined for Greatness Mentoring and Outreach. My specialty has always been working with youth and community outreach. My love for community outreach and youth deepened when I worked for the health department doing case management for new mothers, mothers, and young children. At this point, I started to further educate myself on nonprofit organizations, community outreach, and more. I’ve always had a background in the medical field and social work field. Even my teenage summer job was working with CPS and social services. I started working as a unique education one-to-one and teacher assistant for the state at an alternative school that serviced several Maryland counties. Once there, everyone said I had a sparkle in my eye, and I truly believe my love for children deepened even more. From planning group activities, lesson plans, classroom delegation, and decoration, I knew my calling was to serve the children. So my specialty, in my opinion, is mentoring and nurturing youth, giving back to the community, event planning, and so much more. I am known for being that outgoing go-getter with a big heart. I love being of service to people of all ages, especially children and senior citizens. I am most proud of my steps, accomplishments thus far, and the name I have created for myself among my peers in business. Something that sets me apart from others is MY HEART. I have a big heart and love giving and helping people. That’s my happiness and my purpose. I do anything for the next person, and seeing them happy is my reward.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people wouldn’t know about me is that even though I am a social butterfly, I am a loner and prefer solitude by the water the most. Also, I am a nature lover and animal lover, even though people would guess that because I have 2 dogs.

I love to read interviews about people Who share their natural God given talents with the communities where they reside. Tangi is a genuine caring person. I can instantly feel her nurturing and caring spirit when I see her taking care of people. Tangi loves people, and people love her. Her care and concern for those in need is unconditional, and I feel blessed and inspired when I see how naturally she connects with others. When I think about how I can best serve my community, I hope I can be as impactful as Tangi. Tangi, you are an inspiration. Keep going, you inspire me to be better.
