Meet Simone Slade of Melanin Hair Jewels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Slade.

Hi Simone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been an expressive individual when it has come to my hair braids, locs, my natural curls, or a bald fade lol

Melanin Hair jewels started as a way for me to add some extra magic to my hair and then I started to create for friends, family, co-workers you name it. I told myself “Feed your faith and your fears will starve to death” and I did just that I fed my faith poured into Melanin Hair jewels and created a brand that has a unique and mass selection of hair jewels.

I’m proud to be a Black LGBTQ business owner from Baltimore.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road however it has been a road that has to awakened me to possibilities, starting a new journey is always challenging and gives you a humbling experience, bringing any dream into fruition isn’t easy but the divine shows me what I am capable of.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Melanin Hair Jewels bring light to a Queens crown, from our yarn wraps, cuffs, and Crown Holders we have all of the gems for a Queen to add something new and exciting,

I’m known for creating one-of-a-kind Yarn wraps from the beading to the charms and additional crystals added. Our yarn wraps can be worn with any Hairstyle.

I am most proud of being able to create very unique pieces and seeing them on a Queens Crown as I’m walking on the street with them not even knowing that I created that. I like to remain “the lady behind the scene” and allow my creations to speak.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Taking in the city on Quiet Sunday Morning in the spring is something that I love about Baltimore, uniqueness always draws me to the city for inspiration, our style is unmatched.
