Meet Ruwaydah Amin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruwaydah Amin.

Hi Ruwaydah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Ruwaydah Amin aka Ru. I am the CEO of my company Ru’s Way 1988. My company is based out of Baltimore Maryland. As a young child, I always knew that I had gifts and talents. However, growing up in a strict Muslim household I could only display my talents at a certain event. I could only act, dance, rap, and model in front of women-only audiences. As an adult, I continued to nourish my talents. I started to go to acting classes. I started doing background work on different sets. So far, I have done background work on HBO’s hit series “We Own This City”. I have also done work on Iron Crown Productions “Black Therapy”. Along with acting, I also have a passion for writing, I have written over 100 poems in my life. I have written over 80 songs and raps. I am currently working on self-publishing my first children book titled “In and Out Dad”. I am also working on the script for my first mini-series. Another passion of mines is modeling. As a plus size model I have noticed over the years that we need more representation of us on the runway. I have been modeling for over 15 years. In addition to that I recently became a spokesperson for the LGBTQ+ Muslim Community. I am a bisexual Muslim who has been shunned and degraded by her community. I am using my platform to bring awareness to the fact that you can be a part of the LGBTQ+ community and still be religious.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My life has not been a smooth road. I have been married twice and in relationships that were physically, emotionally, and mentally abusive. As well as since I’ve recently came out as a bisexual Muslim, I have received various threats and people wishing me harm. People are constantly harassing me and tell me that God hates me and that I am going to hell. However, my name Ruwaydah means “gently flowing” in Arabic so I just gently flow past all the people wishing me harm. I take all of the abuse with stride and continue to smile because I know that God has my back always.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for being a multitalented artist. My talents include acting, writing, poetry, modeling, directing, singing, rapping, African dancing and playing musical instruments. I am most proud of my musical talents. I have a gift to just freestyle a song on the spot. I have been freestyling songs since I was around 13 years old. My friends and family are always shocked when I send them my new songs. They are always like” How do you just come up with the lyrics so freely”? It is truly one of my best gifts. When life is tearing me down music has always been my safe space and helped to lift my spirits.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities that are most important to me is my ability to make people feel good through my poetry and music. I have been known to brighten someone day just by my lyrics. My goal in life in to bring peace and love in a world filled with hate and pain, I intend to do that by spreading love and light through my music and poetry.
