Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Benewaah.
Hi Priscilla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa and moved to the United States of America at the age of 18 where I started my college education. I started off at a community college whiles I worked in fast-food restaurants in order to pay my bills.
I am currently a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have over a decade long experience in the nursing field with experience ranging from mental health, substance abuse treatment, Home Health, long-term care and primary care.
My Journey in the nursing field started off as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) which led me in identifying my passion for the individuals I cared for. Through this career transition, I embarked on advancing my education in the field of nursing. Prior to becoming LPN, I always wanted to be a Pharmacist, but I developed love for the nursing field.
I decided to go back to school to become a Registered Nurse after gaining some experience and I graduated from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Later down the road, I returned to Bowie State University for my graduate education and graduated with a Master’s of Science in Nursing with a Specialty in Family Nurse Practitioner. Through working in the field of addiction, I identified a gap in treatment when it came to my clients with a dual diagnosis of substance use disorder and Mental health disorders. I decided to return to school to specialize in Psychiatric Mental health across lifespan. I attended Frontier Nursing University and obtained a Post Master’s Certification in Psychiatric Mental.
I believe in education and continuous learning, I am currently enrolled in a Doctorate program pursuing a terminal degree in nursing.
I currently run my own private practice and provide integrated care including Primary Care, Psychiatric Mental Health and Substance use disorder. We are accredited as an Outpatient Mental Health Center, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program, Intensive Outpatient Program and Partial Hospitalization Program.
I am passionate about what I do and enjoy the transformation that occurs in the individuals we care for.
My mission is to provide patient-centered healthcare with excellence in quality service and easy access to services. I am committed to the wellness of individuals, their families, and the community through prevention, intervention, treatment, and education.
Furthermore, I believe in fostering hope and confidence in the ability to conquer life stresses and enrich the quality of lives for consumers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an immigrant, it has not been an easy road for me. I had to work hard to pay my bills from the age of 18 whiles I was living with my roommate. There were times when we had only a dollar left after paying our bills. My major in college was Pharmacy but due to financial hardships, I decided to divert and take a quick certification in nursing to find a better paying job. This was what led me into finding my passion and staying in the nursing field. I don’t regret ever making that decision, everything in life happens for a reason.
I have been turned down so many times by people who could have helped me, but all those disappointments made me push harder and believed all things are possible to them that believe.
As long as I had the dream, no one could discourage me. Hard work and perseverance do pay off and I continue to strive for excellence in everything I do.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Is hard to point one particular memory from my childhood. In all, I had a great childhood, I enjoyed going to school and learning new things.
High school was a memorable time for me, I went to a catholic boarding school for three years. There was a lot of discipline and structure and I attribute most of my values to the training I received there.
