Meet Lynn Foote and Cindi Pridgen of Massage Associates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Foote and Cindi Pridgen.

Hi Lynn and Cindi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are co-owners of Massage Associates. We got started as co-workers when we both worked at a local massage school. Lynn was an instructor and Cindi was the Campus Director. Then we got to be good friends, then best friends, then business partners. Still best friends!

It started out as just the two of us in a small office in 2001. Over the years we have moved three times and added massage therapists and administrative staff each time. We now have a beautiful spacious facility in a Class A high-rise building in Columbia with 16 staff members. This is our twentieth year in business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Sometimes smooth, sometimes not. One smooth part is that the two of us operate very well as a team. We each have our strengths in running a business that mesh well together. We also have an amazing staff that has helped us get where we are. Along with being the business owners, we both still see clients and that keeps us in touch in important ways, literally and figuratively.

Our struggles are all the growing pains that come with growing a business. Working long hours, watching the trends, keeping the business relevant and appealing to keep current clients and attract new ones, zigging when we should have zagged and what do we do now? Did we mention trying to balance our professional and personal lives? It helps that we laugh A LOT!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

We offer a wide range of massage and bodywork services. Our tag line is “Let Us Make You A Priority” and we are known for doing just that. From the time they arrive to the time they leave clients have our attention. We put an emphasis on listening to and creating connections with our clients. The quality of our massage therapists and the quality of touch that we provide sets us apart.

We are also proud that our staff feels like a family – a team who pulls together to make it happen every day!

For the convenience of our clients, we have an online booking system that’s available 24/7. Clients are also welcome to schedule by calling or by email.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
Starting our own small business was definitely a risk! We had no idea we’d still be at it 20 years later. Lynn is more comfortable with risk-taking than Cindi – that’s a good thing because it has pushed us to grow and change. And sometimes grumble, but it’s all been for the greater good.

Our latest big risk was doubling our space (and our rent!) in September 2019 to move to our current location. Six months later COVID-19 arrived and that was a curveball, as it was for everyone. We are so pleased and grateful to say that we moved through the shutdown and are seeing more clients than ever.

As for taking risks in general? To survive you gotta try! You win some, you lose some. We have been extraordinarily blessed to have won more than our fair share.
