Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Saunders.

Kayla Saunders

Hi Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
During COVID, I truly fell in love with fitness. One day, I looked at myself in the mirror in my room during quarantine and told myself, “Kayla it’s time for a change.” This was back in 2020, so I was doing home workouts, running at local high school tracks, and ordered my very first weight set for at home. Once the gyms opened back up, I decided to get my very own gym membership at Planet Fitness. I hit some goals at that time with losing weight and becoming consistent but of course, things changed and I started to slack.

Fast forward to a year or two later, the college I was attending, Lincoln University decided to open back up so at that time, I was completing my last year as a senior. Honestly, that year was one of the hardest for me mentally– so I decided to get back heavily into the gym and spend my time being productive. So at this point, I wasn’t working out for aesthetics or looks but genuinely was doing it to gain self-love within myself. As my friends noticed that I was consistently going, they started to ask me for training help. I decided to train and help my fellow friends for FREE… yes, for FREE. I felt as though it was something I loved and enjoyed doing, so money was the last of my interests.

Once I graduated college with my Health Sciences degree, I went to Nursing School for a year because I believed it was truly my passion. When things didn’t turn out as planned, I started to feel lost, afraid, and like a failure. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life anymore. After I continued to pray and ask God for continuous guidance, I started to guide my direction toward training again. I made a fitness page on Instagram, got certified, and found my current job as a Fitness Trainer at Planet Fitness at the Towson location. My current clients here are so loving and the ages of my clients range from ages 18-90. LITERALLY. I also see lots of clients with health conditions such as HBP, High cholesterol, Diabetes, Hip/Knee replacements, and a history of cancer.

As my page continued to blow up with followers and as I continued to gain lots of clientele at Planet Fitness, I decided to make an actual name for myself and my brand– Kaash Fitness. The idea of my business is to help those who are first-time beginners in the gym and train those who need support. All of us, including myself were at a point of time where everything in the gym was new to us and maybe we didn’t even know how the equipment worked. I want to continue to help those who may need that guidance and push when starting the gym!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been smooth so far but of course, there have been bumps along the way. Sometimes I feel myself being “overwhelmed” when working at Planet Fitness from 9-5 and then training in the evenings. Some people say “A busy schedule is a good business”, but that’s when you may begin to feel drained and exhausted.

I see myself getting to that point here and there, but one thing I love about myself is that I’m very structured. I need to have a set schedule and a daily routine so that I feel balanced. Doing this helps me get through my day and also helps me alleviate stress from my days.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Certified Personal Trainer and a full-time Fitness Trainer at Planet Fitness (Towson/Hillendale) location.

I have a history of working with women and men from the ages of 18-90! (my eldest client is 90 years old and sees me consistently 4 days a week at Planet Fitness. I also have a history of training those with High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Post-Op recovery, Hip replacements, Knee replacements, Chronic back pain, Sciatica, and much more.

I also specialize in training first-time beginners! So those who may have never stepped foot in a gym or have never worked out alone. I am super proud of how much I’ve grown to this point and how much I’ve accomplished within my work field. The connections I’ve made with people and also how much my business has grown to this point.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
It’s funny when I tell people this story but the making of my fitness page wasn’t even planned.

It was in the year 2022 and I used to post fitness content on my page daily. I felt as though I was being “annoying” with it, so I decided to make a separate page that would be made only for fitness-related content.

The information and reels that I was posting at that time were of course to inform my 56 followers but then as time progressed, I started to gain more and more people interested in what I had to post!
