Meet Jesse Chan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Chan.

Hi Jesse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child growing up, my parents had a small restaurant in my hometown, and so I was exposed to food at a very early age. I spent countless hours at the family restaurant and seeing my dad cook and come up with new recipes. I am fortunate to grow up with Chinese heritage as well and having a large amount of family living in New York City. We would visit very often and my aunts and uncles always took my family and I to these amazing restaurants throughout the city.

As I grew older, all these experiences really fueled my love for food and made me more and more adventurous on trying anything and everything this world has to offer. I knew I wanted to start vlogging my food adventures when I started traveling more after graduating college, and I was able to experience food from many cultures and regions. It really opened my eyes how much creativity is out there and difference techniques there are to create such amazing dishes all around.

I honestly was just messing around on social media and posted me eating food, as I am quite an animated individual, and people liked it. Then one day, I just decided that I was going to make a new food account, and I would document all the unique foods I would come across and post them just for fun and as kind of an online diary. I told no one about it and followed no one as well, in my mind, I was doing it for myself and wouldn’t care if I never got a single follower. Then it slowly grew, and even to this day, I don’t really care if no one watches my content or if millions do. It’s all the same to me. I do it for the love and my quest to try all the good eats this world has to offer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say so because I went into this with absolutely zero expectations, and even if I failed, I would still keep posting as an online diary.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I am not going on food adventures and stuffing my face, I am a cybersecurity engineer for a government contracting firm: nothing too exciting, just your typical IT job.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Happiness, at the end of the day, I think everyone in this world wants the exact same thing. We all want to be happy and live good fulfilling lives. We all achieve that through different outlets, and for me it has always been the joyful sensation of eating delicious food or trying something for the first time and have it absolutely blow your mind on why it took you so long to come across something so delicious. We owe it to ourselves to live the best lives we can and do the things that make us happy.
