Meet Cesar Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesar Ramirez.

Hi Cesar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My journey began about 7 years ago when my daughter was one. I was working in finance, and I was getting burnt out at work. My wife was a stay-at-home mom at that time, and one day I decided to tell her how I was feeling about work. As the amazing woman and mother that she is, she gave me the opportunity of becoming a stay-at-home dad while she returned to work.

About 3 years went by and I wanted to feel like I was providing in one way or another for our family. That’s when I started looking into small side projects. Small electronics and gaming have always been something that I’ve enjoyed, so I figured I would try creating custom controllers at an affordable price and not gouge people as larger companies usually do.

With any small business, comes high and low moments. But even when times have been complicated, I remind myself why I’m doing this. Being able to create things for people and bring them happiness. But the biggest reason of all, this gives me the opportunity of being a stay-at-home dad and being there for my now beautiful 3 kids.

We all face challenges but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many small businesses, I think one of the biggest struggles is getting noticed by the public. Gaining that following will push you over hurdles, and in my experience, orders come in waves.

When the waves are big and loud, it’s always a nice feeling. But when the waves are silent and nonexistent is when I start to wonder why I started this journey. Thankfully I have a supporting family that helps keep pushing me through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I customize controllers for almost all gaming consoles. My method of customizing is by hydro dipping (also known as water transfer printing, a technique for applying customized designs).

What I specialize in or best known for is making anime custom controllers. My clientele base is mostly anime based, but I can do just about any theme. I can take just about any picture, apply it, and make something unique for the customer. And I think that what sets me aside from a lot of other businesses that provide custom controllers.

I’m most proud that I’ve been able to start this small business and still be able to be present for my kids.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Get yourself awesome support from people, friends and family. People that will encourage and keep you moving forward.

Starting your small shop comes with a lot of highs and lows, lots of struggles and self-doubt. The difficult seasons can be very tough so having that support team behind you, can make the biggest difference.
