Meet Briana Wesson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Wesson.

Hi Briana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So in 2019, I had so many business ideas from cooking to jewelry making (I even started making bracelets and selling them) I just wanted something that would bring me income since I didn’t work due to health-related issues. In mid-2019 around June, I had some type of stroke episode which really affected me. I had to go to therapy because I lost some function in my arm and hand and a little in my legs. I even went to physical therapy for months. I was depressed because everyone around me had a job and some type of financial stability that I didn’t have. All I did was go to therapy and come home for months. I started making bracelets to help build my strength in my hands back up and I could still do it but it was harder so I stopped. I remember crying to my father about being a failure and how I’m 22 and have nothing to show for it. He prayed over me and I prayed over myself and I asked God to help me create income that would allow me to stay in the house (due to multiple illnesses) where I didn’t have to sell or ship a product, something I could start quickly with no money down because I had none. October 2019, I was on Instagram looking for businesses I could start that fit my criteria and I came across someone promoting/advertising businesses. I started to do the research, I started gathering my target audience, comparing my prices to other promoters, and figuring out my own way to make a promotional business into my own. November 2019, I started Weikeup Daily Promo and a month or two later, I started Melanin Promo and they are both black-owned promotional businesses. I now promote black-owned businesses for an affordable fee, I create Affirmation Cards and I just started some marketing with my Instagram Audits.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh definitely not! I wish! Sometimes you have to deal with other business owners who don’t have proper etiquette, who only want to participate on our page and support you if it’s a sale going on or if a service is free. I have had people demand promo from me and not even greet me and just say, “I want promo”. I’ve had my work not credited and stolen. It’s not an easy road at all but I feel like if you genuinely love what you do, it won’t stop you at all.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in advertising and marketing services. I’m known for promoting black-owned businesses for a reasonable fee, I have an Instagram Auditing service as well. What I feel like sets me apart from others is that I’m not just promoting for money. Yes, this is my primary source of income, but I have given out free promotions, plenty of discounts because I know what it feels like to just want to make your own money and have something for yourself you can say you OWN. Not everyone can afford to pay an influencer thousands of dollars to promote them, so I make my prices affordable. I genuinely love helping people get engagement, followers and sales it makes me even more confident that I am doing my part to help. I am most proud of the feedback and reviews I get and just how far I’ve come honestly. Stop by my pages, take a look for yourself; all of my reviews, prices, services and so much more is there. I do my job and I do it very well and it’s very reasonable so give me a chance!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I would say one of my favorite childhood memories were my brother, cousin and I all use to sleep over my grandmother’s house and stay up eating all the junk in the world, singing our hearts out as my brother told us to shut up lol, having sleeping contest of who could stay up the most. It was a really fun time.
