Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Pierce.
Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For years I have been an avid tea drinker. I’m the kind of person that would choose tea over coffee any day. After brainstorming business ideas during the summer of 2020, tea stuck out to me. I’m a vegan and health-centered person, as well as a nature lover, so the idea of herbal tea was the direction I was inclined to take.
During that summer, I jumped into the world of herbs learning their potential health benefits, uses, flavors, and everything I could to come up with the best tea mixes. Each mix has its own distinct flavor and health benefits. The environment was also a factor in my decision-making. I decided to go with loose-leaf herbal tea to reduce the amount of tea bags wasted on each cup and offer reusable strainers instead. Now, I aim to educate people on the potential health benefits of natural herbs while offering them a delicious cup of tea.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting and running a home-based business is definitely not easy and has its bumps along the way. One of my biggest obstacles was finding an e-commerce platform that allows CBD to be sold since it is one of the main ingredients for one of my tea mixes. It’s a lot of rules and regulations you have to make sure you’re in compliance with depending on what you’re selling. After changing my entire store around multiple times, I finally found the platform that works best for me. But that was after many headaches.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of tea-making, I am a professional photographer as well. I have been published on platforms such as The Baltimore Sun and Radio One. I was also highlighted and featured by the well-known camera manufacturer Nikon. I love taking portraits, as well as creative, landscape, and street photography. Using my photography and editing skills, I have been able to create content for Tea with Tune as the business progresses. I shoot most of the photography at home using different props and setups. Because of my business, I was introduced to the world of product photography. Each niche of photography has its own specific ways to capture its subject. Now I found myself with a mini, in-home studio complete with lights and backdrops to highlight my tea products.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think risk-taking is a major part of business. You invest in a product or service and go into business to sell in hopes of a profit. When I started Tea with Tune, I had to invest in different herbs to figure out what ingredients would work best for my tea. That meant purchasing many different herbs, making many different mixes, and many cups of tea to sample. It’s all a big process of trial and error. But it’s a risk I’m definitely willing to take.
