Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Johnson.
All is alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I’ll tell anyone that entrepreneurship was never something I envisioned for myself. Growing up, I was always told to get a “good job” with benefits. That changed about 10 years ago when I stumbled into a Zumba Fitness class. Zumba Fitness is a dance fitness class that uses international rhythms as the foundation. After being a student for about a year, I earned my teaching license. As the years passed, students would ask me for guidance about their health and wellness issues. Those conversations motivated me to pursue my trainer certification and develop my coaching business. Over the years, my goal has been to provide a results-driven program that provides resources that lead to sustainable changes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been a journey of success as well as failure. In the first few years, I wasn’t aware of the importance of social media content and developing my voice. I tried different things or followed specific trends and failed miserably! Because of that, I struggled with impostor syndrome. I worked with a coach to understand my ideal clients and how to market my service correctly. As I developed my voice, there was a shift in my content. I had to be willing to get out of my comfort zone and share my authentic self.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Genesys Fitness?
I believe fit, healthy, and confident women empower the world, inspire change, and raise the next generation of leaders. I want to help you reclaim your identity and build confidence in your body through customized life training, motivation, and fitness. I want to give you the keys to rebuilding your identity and allow your mental and physical health to take priority in your life.
In the Bible, the term genesis means “new beginning.” Genesys Fitness (GenFit) is a community of women who recognize the need to reclaim their lives and are emotionally ready to do the work. She named her new motivational fitness business Genesys Fitness because it signified a rebirth for the often “forgotten” woman: the divorce’, caretaker, and empty-nester. GenFit believes self-care takes priority over caring for others because it is in caring for ourselves that we make the best caregivers. Helping women rediscover who they are after a loss will empower them to become their ideal selves – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
GenFit develops strategies to demolish old habits and embrace a healthy, whole lifestyle. It’s about letting go of old habits and adopting new ones. The foundation and a roadmap are created through coaching to reclaim your identity through customized coaching, fitness training, and strategies to build sustainable changes.
GenFit offers a program that tackles mental and physical roadblocks. I can create a fantastic program for a client. However, she will not see progress if you’re struggling with emotional eating until you conquer the limiting beliefs. I aim to create a partnership with my clients that fosters open communication.
What am I most proud of- I’m always humbled when a client shares their victories with me. Whether it is dropping a dress size or non-scale achievements, I’m thankful they trusted the process and succeeded.
I’m in the process of rebranding and developing the next phase of my business. I’m creating and working on new content, E-books and expanding my offerings. I want to create a value-added, well-rounded experience for my clients that provides tools for sustainable changes. It’s a huge undertaking, and I’m excited to see it unfold.
