Meet Amber Braswell of StudioD360

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Braswell.

Hi Amber, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, since my undergrad years at Morgan State University I have always loved planning events small, big, intimate, or social and making people feel good. In 2019 when COVID-19 first hit us I decided to tap into my entrepreneur side and I started a lash business called New Era iCollection which since then has expanded from Instagram to an Annapolis Mall where we have our Lash Vending Machine. In 2021 I gave birth to my baby girl Daniella and knew from that moment on that I wanted her childhood to be different from mine. I wanted to show her that as an African American woman you can go to school and get degrees but you can also be a successful woman of color CEO as well. I decided to start StudioD360 for my daughter and the D in StudioD360 stand for her name Daniella. StudioD360 is just not a photo booth company we bring the vibes to all events we work. We make people feel good, and confident when they get in front of the camera. I plan to build this small business into a large-scale business and service other major cities outside of the DMV. StudioD360 is a family-oriented business and will have a spot waiting for my daughter the moment she is ready to work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Wow no, it has not been an easy road. I went to Morgan State University for undergrad because that is what society tells you when you graduate high school that college is the only way you will survive in the real world. I then decided to go to Coppin State University for my grad degree because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, that I was smart enough to get a Master’s degree. One of my biggest downfall’s is I always doubt myself, I doubt my skills, and my ability to be great. We currently live in a generation where Instagram is the be all end all and people thrive off what other people success looks like from Instagram. I had someone message me and tell me that because I did not have a lot of followers on StudioD360 business page that she did not know if she would book with me because I do not seem popular. I did not even know if I wanted to continue doing the business because at that moment I felt like there were so many other photo booth companies who are already established on Instagram, they had a lot followers, a lot events they previously booked, and a lot of connections. I started asking myself “Why would anyone want to book us?”. Some days I get discouraged but then when I have clients tell me that they are happy they decided to book with us because the experience we bring is magnificent, our customer service is excellent then I get excited because I know I am doing something right and what is for me will always be for me. I decided that I have to believe in myself, and in this company in order for it to be successful and have clients believe in us as well. I also realized that our words are powerful, as we speak, we are speaking things into existence and planting seeds into the universe. I now speak nothing but positive and powerful statements when speaking about StudioD360 in the present and future.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Whether it is a hobby or a fire-burning passion you have hit the ground running and do not look back. Do everything you say you want to do while you are here. Even if you have a 9-5 still pursue that hobby and turn it into an outlet for yourself. Also use Instagram to your full advantage, never feel pressured to do or have what the next business is doing. Do what works for you and your business because what is for you will always be for you. If you have one business idea and it does not work do not let that discourage you, keep trying until you get it right. Also for all small business HelloAlice.com is a great resource for business owners to connect, network, find mentor ship, as well as apply for grants funding and it’s all free!!!
