Today we’d like to introduce you to Alanna Brown.
Hi Alanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I always said I wanted to be a teacher. I would dress up as a teacher for career day every year – without fail! But then, college came, and it was time to make concrete decisions about going into the field of education. It wasn’t what I thought it would be, and so I took another path. Now, I realize that that particular avenue was not for me, and that’s okay. Without knowing it yet, I was meant for a less traditional form of assisting others in their process of learning and discovery.
I graduated from George Mason University, class of ’15, with a Bachelor’s in Criminology, Law and Society and minor in Psychology. I landed on those two fields of study because those were the areas that interested me most at the time. Although, I had no idea what I wanted to do career-wise. My answer was literally “I don’t know” when people would ask me that question. So, during that time of not knowing, I gravitated to what I felt I could do or was already good at, both school-wise and with my jobs after college.
I inched my way to my spiritual awakening with self-help books and other inspirational and spiritual books. That led to an undeniable realization in early 2018 that this work of spirituality was my passion. I wanted to be in this field, and I felt a calling to empower others on their spiritual journey as they bring their spiritual nature to the forefront.
That was how my business, Journey with Alanna, LLC, started. It started with my personal journey and me sharing that. Then, it expanded to me assisting others on their journey. From there, finding my way to professional coaching happened quite naturally. I became a professionally trained life coach in 2019 and a Certified Life & Leadership Coach through Coach For Life Institute’s International Coaching Federation (ICF)-accredited program in 2020.
Currently, I am furthering my education by pursuing a Master’s degree in Consciousness and Human Potential from Maharishi International University. So, here I am today with an overflowing passion for professional coaching and contemporary spirituality – two fields that are still considered by many to be very untraditional. So, in many ways, I recognize that I am off the beaten path, and I’m embracing that more and more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I certainly acknowledge that I am and have been blessed. I grew up in a stable and loving household as a “military brat” with three siblings and happily married parents. So it’s been smooth in the sense that I had a foundation to build upon to get to this point. But, I wasn’t exempt from the struggles of developing self-awareness, personal autonomy, and emotional and spiritual maturity, and the growth edges that come with all of that self-discovery. Although, that struggle lessens the more that I lean into walking my talk and leading with my spirituality.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Journey with Alanna, LLC is a conscious business that advocates for intentional alignment with well-being and our spiritual nature. I support and empower individuals to raise their consciousness or awareness through professional life coaching and spiritual mentoring. I’m known for bringing a vibrational perspective to the way that we live our lives, and I specialize in working with individuals on a spiritual journey, or what I also often term as conscious creators. These individuals often also believe in deliberately creating their lives, the Law of Attraction, and vibrations and energy.
What sets me apart is the intentional spiritual work that I continue to practice in my own life. This allows me to be up to the task of forging a new path unlike what has already been done. I’m doing the work, and I believe that it shows. Another thing that sets me apart and that I am proud of is the free 60-minute Self-Empowerment Boost session that I offer. I enjoy having that offer because it allows people to 1) experience a professional coaching session and 2) explore whether coaching with me aligns with their journey before committing to a coaching relationship.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
For me, the pandemic reinforced the importance of maintaining my spiritual practices. With the uncertainty of the times, I found that anytime that I lacked in my practice, a fog of confusion and fear could and would settle in! It also brought to light how innovative and solution-minded we can be when faced with things being so different from what we previously knew.
