Life & Work with William Fields

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Fields.

Hi William, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My love for photography started about seven years ago. It started out with my love of travel. On vacation, I would always use my phone to take pictures but of course, that kills your battery.

I was preparing for another vacation when I was just talking with my dad and he says “William why haven’t you just bought a real camera by now?” That same night, I went across the street to Best Buy and brought my first “real” camera.

Fast forward to 2020 and the pandemic shuts everything down. Photography was an activity that can be down while social distancing. I have been going strong since then.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Lol, no, not at all! But when you’re starting out in something new, you are going to have your struggles and learning curves.

I would say the two biggest struggles were knowing the right gear to invest in and lighting. I’m still learning a lot about both of those.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Oh man, this is a hard question to answer. I’m such a private person. I would say that I specialize in people. For me, I’m most proud of helping and seeing others that I was able to help, be able to achieve whatever their goals are.

I try to encourage and empower the people I work with. That will always bring me the most joy, not my accomplishments.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Practice. Practice. Practice. You can only get better by practicing your craft. Invest in the right equipment from the beginning. Investing in the right equipment will save you a lot of money in the future.
