Life & Work with Will Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Johnson.

Hi Will, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
Well, shoot, I was a photographer for about 3-4 years and was always surrounded by music, whether it was the artist I was working with or the homies. It lowkey was always something I wanted to try, so I just made the jump a year ago, and now I’m here just trying to get my first project finished, honestly.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hell, Nah, it was a huge jump for me even to start, from financial struggles to lack of equipment to my surroundings. It was just a huge struggle to do anything, and it surfaced in many things, especially my mental health; Therapy honestly was the biggest thing I could’ve ever done for myself because I didn’t know what I’d be doing.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer and songwriter, lowkey learning how to be a producer now, haha; I still dabble in photo work and imaging, but I’m not going to lie; I want to get into films, too whole process seems exciting. What I’m most proud of, and in the same light that sets me apart, is the ability to say f*** it, I’ll do it. It’s gotten me into positions and rooms I’d never thought an awkward dude from Baltimore would ever be in, but it’s all on God’s time; I’m ready for whatever next.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being your honest self. Nobody wants to deal with someone who will be weird or drain their energy. It’s just not the play. I rather someone does not bang with me for who I am than the opposite happen with me pretending I’m something I know I’m not. I wear hoodies and baggy clothes, hate parties and am shy, but I never get out of character to fit a specific mold. If we cool, we cool, simple.
