Life & Work with Skrap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skrap.

Hi Skrap, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I first gained interest in the podcast field when I appeared on an episode of “without further ado” a podcast run by my homeboys Qaid and Walter (RIP). Previously I had listened to podcasts sporadically as I was and still am a fan of the Breakfast Club, but I wasn’t thinking about doing a podcast until watching an episode of “Drink Champs” and thinking wow that’s us. I could totally relate to their format and what they were talking about.

During this same period of time, I used to spend a bunch of time in this roast group on Facebook called “prosMack talk”. The basis of this group was pure roasting no hold barred leave your feelings at the door. I grew up in a roasting environment so this was nothing new and needless to say I spent a lot of time in this group. This is where I met my original cohosts. Upon developing the show, I thought to myself I need witty people who can be funny and I need females to balance the room. I immediately thought of the prosmack group because I met some of the funniest females in that group, so I reached out to two of the funniest in the group: Love to Hate Me & Prada.

Luckily, they both accepted the offer to come to join me on this venture without even really knowing me outside of Facebook which I am forever grateful. I rounded out the cast with my close friends Calhoun, Kevin Be, and DJ JG “the main event”. We initially began recording episodes in studios but after our second episode aired, we were contacted by the head of 1500 Radio, Phil who gave us the opportunity to bring our show to live internet radio. 6 years later we are still going strong as 1500 has grown to the point we need 2 separate entities.

1500 Radio is now a terrestrial radio station that rivals the likes of 92Q and other radio station brands, but we also have 1500 PODCITY Radio which is tabbed “the voice of Baltimore’s underground” which we are the face of. My cast has changed throughout the years and Currently, we are represented by Love to Hate Me, Charlie Gee, Myself, and still have close ties with Calhoun, Kevin Be, Prada, Cheech the Chef, and Shain who stop by regularly and still contribute to the brand.

Our show is the perfect blend of Humor, Serious topics, Urban Culture, Music, and Current Events cooked with that special Baltimore flavor. Our mission is to have the correct spotlight placed on our town to highlight what we have to truly offer the world instead of the violence the media portrays upon us.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing that’s worth doing has a smooth road. We have faced numerous obstacles. Such as high-profile guests who cancel last minute, technical system issues, and financial woes once the pandemic hit.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Personally, I am a graphic artist, I’m the audio engineer for my show and others, I’m a songwriter, as well as a full-time parent. Other than my kids I’m most proud of my graphic designing, as I have grown so much over the years from being a freelance sketch artist to one of the top designers for the Mogul Printing imprint.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a bit of a jokester early on, the person in trouble but not a trouble maker. I was just trying to have a good time and am still that way today. I used to love playing sports like football, baseball, and basketball and I always used to draw.
