Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanae McFadden.
Hi Shanae, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So I started Sensational Statements as a passion project in 2011 while attending Delaware State University. At that time, I was working towards my Hospitality & Tourism degree and wanted to place to show my creativity. I had aspirations of becoming an event planner and I wanted a place to show my event planning and culinary experience. I have always loved cooking and the art of entertaining. This passion started at an early age spending time with my mom and grandmother and I begin my formal education In high school attending Western School of Technology and Environmental Science, where my magnet was culinary arts.
Sensational Statements encompasses all of my loves in one place. I share my recipes, events that I’ve planned, DIY projects, and entertaining tips. I find it therapeutic to have a space that is my own that I can share with the world. The reason I love events and entertaining is that it brings people together. People can come together in a beautiful space enjoy each other, food, drink, and music. The five senses are all stimulated and that can create such an awesome feeling.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Content creation isn’t always easy. When I first started Sensational Statements, I was in college so it was balancing school, work, and just growing as an individual. There have been periods of times when I had to step away and I would beat myself up not being able to handle it all but I had to learn that for me to be happy with what I produce, that may require breaks and that’s okay. Even to this day, I have to remind myself of that. If I am not happy or loving it, it is good to assess and make a new plan of action.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Full-time I plan events for an association. Sensational Statements has always been a passion project that I use to showcase my skills outside of my full-time job. I am a self-certified foodie so I am known for my recipes and my events. It brings me so much joy to have people enjoy an experience I have provided for them.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I would suggest always be open to making connections. I have had to push myself to do so as It isn’t my normal thought to do but the results have been incredible. I have met so many amazing individuals that have helped me in my career.
