Today we’d like to introduce you to People Food .
Hello People Food, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started our band at the end of 2018. The three of us have been good friends since high school. We all reconnected around that time to play dungeons and dragons, so we had been spending a lot of time together. We are all musicians and feel a little unsatisfied just working day jobs and not having a creative outlet. We decided to get together and jam. By the third jam session, we had had the structure for the first time we would ever write called Wood Portal. That was enough for us to realize that we had something special. We didn’t take long to write more material and eventually started gigging.
Later the following year, we kicked around the idea of having some unique Murch. Since our band is People Food, we figured it would be cool to have some food to sell. That’s when the hot sauce came in. Our guitarist Steve got together with his mom and kicked around some recipes. After one afternoon, they had the recipe for Pickle Monster. Since then, our hot sauce company has grown exponentially larger than we could’ve anticipated. Since our hot sauce taste like a spicy pickle, we also started making pickles. And they happen to be the best pickles in Philly. Oddly enough, Covid causing a lockdown was a bit of a blessing for us. It gave us the time to not worry about the jobs and focus on building our business. Now we have our products in over 20 Philly and New Jersey shops. We even supply pickles by the bucket for a restaurant called Source Urban Brewery in Fishtown in Philly. It’s tough to talk about People Food without mentioning Pickle Monster. The two go hand-in-hand.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
We haven’t faced any hardships in this band. We’ve all known each other for a while and are mild-mannered. We’ve also all been involved in musical projects that haven’t worked out, so we all know what to avoid. But it’s not something we actively have to think about. It’s effortless being in People Food.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets us apart is that we are a psychedelic instrumental band with a hot sauce in Pickle company. Both of these things are our pride and joy. None of us ever thought we would be business owners let alone of something original. And the music we make is so collaborative that it requires all three of us in the room. It’s the greatest sense of teamwork that any of us have ever felt
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Philly is great because it’s one of the biggest cultural cities in the country. Our pickle and hot sauce company would not be as successful as it is were it not because we are located in a central metropolitan area. Not to mention were in such close proximity to so many other cities. This makes it easy to do events that aren’t too far. The same thing goes for the music scene. There are plenty of places to play as far as house venues and actual venues. We are currently planning a tour for October. That decision may have been harder to make if we were in a furthermore rural area.
