Hello Lemon Pepper & Sazon Comedy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Lemon Pepper and Sazón Comedy is a collective of diverse performers in the Hampton Roads area. The group includes seasoned and trained, actors, models, comedians, sketch writers/performers, improvisers, hosts, singers, bloggers, and influencers.
Lemon Pepper and Sazón offers private and corporate event performances and are skilled in engaging crowds of all shapes and sizes. Lemon Pepper and Sazón Comedy were founded on the idea of bringing diversity and inclusion to improv and sketch comedy in the Hampton Roads area and beyond!
We currently host a monthly diversity jam at Push Comedy Theatre in Norfolk, VA. A portion of the funds from this show go towards a diversity scholarship to provide a free introductory improv class to diverse students.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The group was formed to overcome the challenge of lack of representation in improv and sketch comedy in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We want to provide a safe space for diverse performers to tell their stories and connect with others.
Our biggest challenge is getting us all together in the same room lol! We have 9 core members and 5 featured players so at times it can be difficult to align schedules.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We create sketch and improv comedy that showcases diverse stories.
A few of us are trained stand-up comedians, singers, actors, models, and writers. We provide improv workshops for companies, kids, and groups.
We provide comedy shows for events and parties.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We just returned from Baltimore performing at the From Another Mother (F.A.M.) Improv Festival. We will be performing at the North Carolina Comedy Festival in September.
We’ve toured Baltimore, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and now North Carolina! We are regional baby! Trying to get to national status.
