Life & Work with Jennifer Lucia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lucia.

Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My world changed the moment my husband came home and proudly declared that he had enlisted in the active duty Army. At the time, I was working in a corporate career with goal of climbing the management ladder. I had also just received my MBA. Before I knew it, my life had changed seemingly overnight, and I found myself living in Seoul, Korea as a military dependent. Like most military dependents, I was faced with the task of finding a new career that would be portable, which would stay with me from one location to another as it’s customary to move every 3-4 years. I’ve always had a love for taking photos and documenting special moments, and I took several digital and film photography courses during college. I also acted as the photographer and editor for our campus literature magazine, so the passion for taking photos was always present. That coupled with the knowledge I acquired about running a business through my MBA gave me all the tools towards building a photography studio that has found success for over a decade and across four states and two countries.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Operating a full-time business as an entrepreneur is always a challenging feat, but even more so when you are tasked with re-locating that business every few years. It has taken a great deal of research, ingenuity, marketing savvy, and ambition on my part to consistently bounce back after a military PCS (change of duty station). These moves aren’t as easy as moving from one state or region to the next, but often overseas transitions which make researching the new area vital. Not only do cultures and expectations change, but also the methods needed to reach new clients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wedding and engagement photographer and specialize in capturing some of the most important and special moments in the lives of my couples. Each time I am photographing the vows said between my couples, I am proud of the fact that I have earned the honor of being the person they chose to memorialize that moment in time for them.

I believe that what sets me aside from others is my ability create dramatic, epic images that really showcase how the couple feels about one another and really showcases their relationship.

How do you define success?
Success is the combination of having happy clients, lots of positive reviews, and a financially sustainable career.
