Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanna Mangold.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2019, after studying English Lit and creative writing, working as an ESL teacher, a professor, a tutor, a retail clerk, a waiter, a dishwasher, a hostess, a prep cook, a nanny, a dog walker, a secretary, a leasing agent, an ice-cream scooper, and a house cleaner, and living in Virginia, Georgia, Vermont, West Virginia, DC, and Austria.
I followed a whim and enrolled in massage school at the Holistic Massage Training Institute here in Baltimore, MD. This turned out to be a total game-changer for me—I didn’t even really believe one could have a career they really and totally loved!
I live with my amazing partner and our very weird cats in the Lauraville neighborhood of NE Baltimore. When I am not massaging, I am often hiking, reading, gardening, cooking, hanging out with friends, working out, and eating dessert!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled with depression and a lot of self-esteem issues in my teens and 20s and as a result, did not always surround myself with healthy people or relationships.
Those are times I look back on with some sadness, but I know they eventually got me to where I am now. I am learning every day to accept kindness and love in my life, and to give it back in return!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love working with people who want to round out their fitness/exercise routines by integrating deep stretching movements, as well as anyone interested in increasing their mobility.
I am also interested in the psychological benefits of massage and love working with clients to manage anxiety, insomnia, depression, stress, and body image concerns. ~COME AS YOU ARE.
I believe strongly that access to and empowerment in wellness belongs to everybody, and is never limited by size or color, race, sexual orientation or gender/sex, age, ability, health, income, nationality, etc. I use a trauma-sensitive approach, and always strive to make my massage table a safe and peaceful space.
Each massage is customized to address the needs of the client. This includes adjusting pressure, speed, and technique. Techniques used may include aspects of Swedish massage, deep tissue, Thai on the table, dry cupping, facial or abdominal cupping, myofascial release, and stretching.
I offer sliding scale rates and lots of promotions because I really want to be accessible to my community.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
So many problems we face are due to misunderstandings. It is so important to me that I communicate clearly with clients and that they feel comfortable advocating for their needs while on the massage table.
Being able to express yourself clearly and listen closely to others takes practice and patience!
