Life & Work with DJ LimeLightz

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ LimeLightz.

Hi DJ LimeLightz, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Well, I used to throw parties then I started hosting (MCing) my own parties. I’ll say after following Dj Mo Beats and Dj Liquid at the time, I kinda thought I could do what they were doing and I was in college! I felt like I could start DJ’ing my own parties, so I bought some equipment and started going to the club, watching other DJ’s then I would go home and practice. I just remembered it was about to be my first icebreaker and I told the promoter that I DJ and to let me rock that b****.

It was up after that! I started doing all the parties then I started going all over Michigan and Ohio to do other Universities as well. After that, I started doing College Radio and that led to me wanting to do more radio so I started doing mix shows for 97.3 Toledo. I graduated college, moved back to Detroit, and did some guest mix shows for Hot 107.5, throwing events with local artists at The Shelter and I connected with Dej Loaf at one of my events.

Shortly after, her song “Try Me” ended up blowing up and I became her Tour DJ. Fast forward to now, it’s like, the networking that I did while I was on the road with her, landed me where I am now, Dj’ing on tour with Gucci Mane. I also Tour DJ with Babyface Ray.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say yeah it’s been a smooth road. It’s more or so what you make it. Everybody goes through stuff but I’ll never look place the blame on anyone. Whenever I bumped my head, I learned from it. Everybody has a rookie season it’s just on you to improve and keep it pushing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Tour DJ and Producer. I also run a studio. I feel like I’ve been in the game for a minute so some people know me for the mixtapes I used to drop back in the day. Some people may know me from the college parties, Then some people may know me more, so for the songs I have produced over the years.

I’m different from others I think because I kinda stay to myself a lot but still make huge sh*t happen. I’m not the type to talk much, I prefer to just show what I’m about. I’m most proud to just be able to turn up and feed the fam of my passion you know.

It takes a lot to be successful when you self employed especially in the music biz with no entourage. Literally never had any manager, no nothing everything from the ground up. Self-made that’s what I’m for sure most proud of.

What does success mean to you?
Being able to take care of your family, travel when you want to. Basically just living how you wanna live but not in a content way. Just cause you’re rich doesn’t mean you gotta be flashy you feel me?
