Life & Work with Cole Mitchek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Mitchek.

Hi Cole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Back in Summer 2019, ‘smallsongs’ was birthed from the inspiration of shooting spontaneous and acoustic music videos. ‘smallsongs’ started in Denver, and then we purchased a bus to take it on the road. We eventually made it to Baltimore and spent some time mostly parked in Charles Village.

There we met and shot videos with some incredibly talented Baltimore musicians like Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Bobbi Rush, Josh Stokes, Micah E. Wood, Super City, Modern Nomad, and Judah Arrington.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Living on a bus is full of ups and downs. Luckily our old vehicle made it all the way across the country with only one breakdown in New Orleans. We went south for the winter to avoid the cold, and north when spring came in to avoid the heat.

Along the way, we got to see so many different sides of the country during a pandemic. We also got lots of great opportunities to meet inspiring and gifted musicians.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a filmmaker who loves music. So most of the film work I do is related to music, which is apparent with both ‘smallsongs’ and my feature film ‘nosebleeders’ which came out earlier this year, and is available on YouTube if you’d like to check it out.

How do you think about happiness?
I’ve got a 15-month-old baby named Elliott, a wife named Andy, and a three-legged cat named Bilbo. They definitely make me happy. They make everyday fun.
