Life & Work with Callie Shiflett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Shiflett.

Hi Callie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
During the beginning months of the CODIV-19 pandemic, I found myself at home with a lot of free time. I started exploring different DIY projects and finally decided that I wanted to learn how to crochet. I had thought about it for months prior to quarantine, without having the opportunity or the time to learn. I began to make myself a hand-crocheted “chunky blanket”. To say I loved it was an understatement! I began sharing pictures of my work with my family and friends. Immediately, I had three orders. I was so unprepared for their excitement! In fact, I hadn’t even come up with a price list!

I knew nothing about being an entrepreneur. I was only seventeen and had no experience of a business background. In spite of that, before I even realized it, Callie Collections was open for business. I realized immediately that I wanted to pursue this dream. As word got out, I then created an Instagram page. I had no idea what would happen. I honestly had no idea that I’d ever be where I am today with my business. The Lord has blessed me beyond measure!

If you find my business on Instagram, you’ll see that I am now creating several unique, home-decor pieces. A few months back, after counsel and prayer, I made the decision to walk away from my part-time job at the local coffee shop and invest all my time and energy into my small business. I love creating items that I know when I send them out, they will become a part of your home. I owe a lot to my followers, family and friends for their encouragement and continuous support. I’m so incredibly excited for the many future possibilities and the realization of all the many dreams that are hidden in my heart.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been challenging at times. Imposter syndrome can kick in when you see others making the same or similar products. I also had doubts starting out and wondered if I’d be able to supply new items that are trendy but also timeless… and if this is something I can see myself doing years down the road.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I believe that passion, originality, and self-motivation have a huge part in being a small business owner! I don’t just create items for only a profit, or just for fun… although it is… 😉 But this is a dream of mine that is coming true before my eyes. I am so grateful to do what I do and to have my collections a part of homes all around the US. My signs, blankets, and anything else that I sell is completely hands made, which to me is the whole idea of being a creator! I think that entrepreneurship is an incredible investment for me personally, and it truly makes my heart smile to be supported by locals and such incredibly kind customers all over!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I definitely see upgrades and new products in the upcoming years! I have a huge vision and I’m never running out of ideas for where I’d like to see Callie Collections progress and improve. I want to be consistent and classic, but also stay fresh and bringing new items to the brand!
