Life & Work with Bryan Dixon of MT. Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Dixon.

Hi Bryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been gaming since I could hold a controller, so since about 3 years old. I’ve always loved video games. It didn’t matter if I played with friends or by myself; I was hooked on them. My mom hated it; honestly, she always told me you won’t ever make any money on that game all day long. It’s not helping you do anything. I was a child at the time, so I didn’t understand it. It wasn’t until I got older and looked at many of my homies who were either in the street, dead, or in jail. I realized it helped. Me a lot because I never got in trouble. My streaming career started in 2017, a year after my 6-year-old daughter was born. I was living from Place to Place. My first few streams were from my phone propped up in my shoe. Doing mobile streams was a challenge, but I stuck to it, and now I’m a part of two Gaming Organizations. And close to one thousand followers on Twitch. My goal for streaming is to be a haven channel for all my black brothers and sisters and everyone in between to feel comfortable and safe to speak on anything where we can have a safe dialogue about issues, current events, and ways to better ourselves each other as a community. All while enjoying games. I’m unsure if I will ever make it big, but I’m here to enjoy the journey and celebrate the destination.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trying To be a Gamer and Father simultaneously was a challenge. Learning not to be discouraged by others growing around me was a challenge. The biggest challenge was wanting to keep going. I was super discouraged from streaming because so much was on my plate outside of it. But now I know I can’t stop.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My Place of business is as a customer service representative for ClearOne Advantage. I help people navigate their accounts by settling their debt. It’s a 9-5, but I enjoy it. I’m a people person, and I love to talk, so now that I have a job at home where I can speak to people and help professionally is a blessing.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Look for someone who cares about your growth. Network with like-minded people that share similar interests. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You never know who is watching you.
