Inspiring Conversations with Sherri Sembly of NextHome Forward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Sembly.

Hi Sherri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by  introducing yourself.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story. I was born and raised in  Connecticut, and I moved to Maryland in 2003. Before my career in real estate began, I was an Early Childhood Educator for 17 years. My career in real estate  began in 2014 and today, I’m the Associate Broker and Owner of NextHome  Forward.

I spent my first 6 years in real estate working at two brokerages. I was excited  about my career change, and I wanted to learn everything I could about real  estate. I excelled quickly and helping people reach their real estate goals  became my passion. It was life-changing for me to help others change their lives.  In the Spring of 2020, my best friend and I took a leap of faith, and we started our  own franchise brokerage with NextHome, Inc. Together, we opened NextHome  Forward, located in Nottingham, Maryland. We were ready to do real estate in a  new and refreshing way; making customer service and client care our top  priorities. Our mission is to build relationships and be a resource for the  community as we help people reach their real estate dreams.

It’s been a wonderful ride thus far!

We continue to thrive and grow each year, helping more families find their  NextHome. Since opening our brokerage, several agents have joined our team  and our mission. This is so exciting for us! As our brokerage continues to grow  with like-minded agents, we know we will be able to impact more lives and that  will make our mission even more successful.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the  biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always bumps in the road when starting and running a business, just as there are bumps in the road when living life. In business, it’s important to stay focused on the goals you have set and it’s important to remember there are  always solutions to any obstacle.

One of the challenges that comes with running a business is the many hats that  must be worn. As a REALTOR®, Associate Broker, and Owner of NextHome  Forward, I still actively sell real estate. Working with clients while still being  available to our agents, maintaining paperwork, providing training, and managing  the office, can be a challenge. Staying focused and being intentional with my  time is what helps me overcome these challenges.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about NextHome  Forward?
NextHome Forward is a real estate brokerage helping people all over Maryland  achieve their real estate goals. We are well-positioned and ready to serve! Our  agents work with all types of residential clients, including, but not limited to,  investors, first-time home buyers, and military families. In addition, we are  experienced in foreclosures, short sales, property management, multi-unit  properties and estate sales.

Our mission is to serve within the community, make homeownership dreams a  reality, and provide education and guidance to families as they venture to find  their NextHome.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you are just starting out, my advice to you would be to do work that you love,  do it well, and don’t let anyone discourage you from your dreams and goals. If  someone tells you that you can’t do it or that you won’t be successful, remind  yourself that the doubt they speak is a self-reflection of their inner fears; not  yours.

Early in my real estate career, I had a supervisor chuckle at me when I  expressed my desire to excel, letting me know that I was not being taken  seriously. Someone else, early in my career, let me know that I was a good  admin/coordinator, but they felt I would not be a good real estate agent.

When I look at where I am today, and as I reflect on the families that I’ve been  able to help, I’m so glad I didn’t listen to the doubters. I wake up every day with a  passion to help others and while doing that, I’m making my dreams come true as  well. Never doubt your worth and your capabilities.

It’s your journey so go for it!
