Inspiring Conversations with Sharika Jackson of Skin-ish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharika Jackson.

Sharika Jackson

Sharika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been a nurse for over two decades. I am a product of Baltimore City and County public schools, graduating from the great Edmondson-Westside High School in West Baltimore. There, I completed training to become a Licensed Practical and successfully passed my State Board. I later returned to further my education and obtain my license as a Registered Nurse at the stellar Baltimore City Community College. I was lucky enough to have some of my teachers from high school. I now have my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I always wanted to be in health care, as a little girl I would go to work with one of my Grandmothers who was a GNA.

I would help feed the residents, do their hair or just sit with them to keep them company. I have always loved helping people. I especially loved assisting people to get to a better version of themselves. I’ve worked in multiple nursing facilities throughout the state from Baltimore to Frederick and in various capacities. Becoming a Skin Nurse Rika was the dream job I never knew I wanted or would love so much! Not only am I a Nurse, I am a Dermatology Nurse to be specific, but I am also a Licensed Esthetician. This is the path that I feel I was destined to be in, and my timeline may be one for the books, lol.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the road to where I am now had a few bumps, potholes, and detours, however, it makes for one amazing testimony!

Along the way I have struggled with the demands of school, work, life, being a single young mother, being a wife then divorced, it honestly has all taught me a lot. It taught me to appreciate life and all it brings good and bad.

We’ve been impressed with Skin-ish, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Skin-ish is my baby! Skin-ish symbolizes feeling beautiful and worthy inside and out. As a Registered Nurse, I have compassion and a heart for health, as a Licensed Esthetician I have the eye for artistry and knowledge to produce safe and effective skincare treatments. My absolute favorite treatments to perform are Microneedling and Skin Imperfection Treatments. They both are very safe, minimally invasive and produce amazing life-changing results! What sets me apart is that I love to educate and build a relationship with my guests.

What I am most proud of about my brand is how education is of great importance. My continued education leads to my guest being educated. The more I learn the more I can share. What I want the readers of Voyage Baltimore to know is that if you are looking for great customer service, corrective skincare with a spa-like experience, and are truly serious about your skin health, Skin-ish, LLC is the place for you. An array of services for all skin types with continued expansion is the projection. Skin-ish, LLC not only services guests on a one-on-one basis, but offerings such as spa parties, and spa lounges for events such as vending, conferences, employee appreciation, etc. are available.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting.
For those who are just starting, I would recommend quite a few things, but to keep it short first is to figure out what service you love to provide. Study, research, and implement. I would also say to be well-versed in what you are allowed to perform and what you are not.

Please always be willing to learn. Last but not least (in my list of making it short, lol) collaborate and don’t compete. Oh and one more thing find a community to get support and be of support, it’s a game changer. I wish I would have found my community a lot sooner and I wish I would have believed in myself a lot sooner.
