Inspiring Conversations with Roxanne Cummings of SuperNaturals Haircare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxanne Cummings.

Hi Roxanne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
SuperNaturals Haircare store started back in 2017 because of my frustration of not be able to find quality haircare items in my local stores. I didn’t like shopping online for something I wanted now, lol.

I pitched the idea of opening a haircare store to my sisters (partners) and they were a little reluctant but willing to take the journey with me. The focus of the store was and is to sell all black-owned hair and beard products as well as other black-owned accessories. In my search to fill the shelves, I was very pleased to find local Baltimore vendors that manufacture their products in-house. This also became a focus of the store to find homegrown vendors to stock our shelves. SuperNaturals opened in November 2019 with a great grand opening, little did we know we would be shut down 3-4 months later. But we pushed through and pivot our business to include our wonderful Hair Bar where you can make your own hair product or take a class in making your own product. We are truly dedicated in educating people in haircare and helping understand products that are best for their hair. Our slogan is Be Yourself, Naturally and we’re Hair for You!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely been rough because we were only open 3-4 months before we had to close down with the pandemic. We’re still pushing to get our name out and the store concept, but I believe things will turn around for us.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
SuperNaturals Haircare specializes in offering a variety of black-owned hair products. What sets us apart from other hair care or beauty supply stores is all of our products are free of parabens, sulfates and silicones. We also have a wonderful Hair Bar for customers to make their own hair products or can schedule are party or one-on-one session. We are most proud of educating customers on good versus a bad product and label reading.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I was originally born in Pittsburgh, PA and I moved to the Baltimore area back in 2007 and fell in love with the city.
