Inspiring Conversations with Latika Vines of Visionary Initiatives, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latika Vines.

Hi Latika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I had served in the capacity of Training Program Manager and Officer for many years, where I helped many employees gain clarity on their career goals, mentored them, and created processes to help them get from one employment level to the next. However, I felt stuck and overwhelmed in my position because no one wanted to hire a woman with four children. I was told that I had commitment issues (because I was solely focused on my children and not the job, which wasn’t true) and that I would be unreliable because my family needed me more. No matter what experience I brought to the table, the question was always asked of me to choose between my family or the job.

A few months after having my youngest child, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression, which gave me the opportunity to take time away from work to identify how to manage my home with four children, identify who would be able to help with caring for them while both my husband and I worked, and more. Once I was able to identify this, I heard God clearly tell me to help other women.

Since that season, I have had the blessing of helping over 100 working moms gain clarity on their career vision, create a plan to achieve it, and pursue it through coaching, workshops, webinars, podcast, and speaking engagements.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road.

When I completed the necessary documents to conduct business in Maryland, I did not know what my next step was. I was unclear on who I wanted to serve and how to serve them. I knew that I had experience in coaching and mentoring people, but I didn’t know how to package it together.

One might say that I started things backwards, but it’s advised to determine the who, what, how, when, where, and why of your business. And, although I had thought about those details, I never built a strategy behind it. It took two years of trial and error for me to identify who I wanted to serve (e.g. niche) and how I wanted to serve them.

My services have evolved since that moment, but I have given myself permission to adapt to the time and needs of Christian Working Moms in male-dominated industries who desire to enter into leadership roles.

Additionally, I had to recognize that my business did not have to look like another business. My coaching, training, and consulting business was and continues to be different and I had to give myself permission to stand out and look different. It has been a challenge because I struggled with being accepted.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Visionary Initiatives, LLC is a Career and Personal Development Organization providing Strategy, Consulting, Coaching, and Training. We are dedicated to the Career & Personal Development of Law Enforcement, Information Technology, and Professional Services employees, particularly their working mothers.

It has been our mission to help the organizations with their current working moms to have increased work-life balance, career mobility, employee satisfaction, and improve succession planning while creating strategies to increase their attractiveness as a place for working moms to work.

We believe that all women should get back to their Career Vision, with the right career growth and work-life balance that fits their needs; while providing them with the coaching to get there and helping their organizations create systems and strategies to retain them.

Visionary Initiatives not only provides the most up-to-date career development strategies to assist working mothers towards career mobility, but it’s a company that is centered around the experience of what working mothers go through in male-dominated industries.

As a Career Development Strategist for Working Moms, I specialize in career development, work-life balance, time management and productivity, and growth strategies for promotion, organization, and retention. I am known for being the B.O.S.S. M.O.M. Coach, helping working moms to build opportunities for self-success moment over moment.

I would like your readers to know that I am certified in Human Capital Strategist, Strategic Workforce Planning, and Performance Consulting for Trainers. It has always been my lifetime goal of being a Chief Learning Officer and through my work at Visionary Initiatives, LLC, I have transformed my career vision into an initiative.

I am taking new clients in my program, The Leader Within, which is a multi-faceted personal development coaching program that will provide working moms the tools to lead themselves, their peers, and their organization’s mission.

This Program will provide participants with a strong ability to provide quality leadership for themselves and the teams they will manage. The program looks to help working moms develop personally by setting goals and taking accountability for their actions. Additionally, the program looks to help participants lead others by developing an effective style of peer-communication and delegating tasks efficiently from person-to-person. Finally, the program looks to ensure that participants maintain the skills needed to lead their organization’s mission by evolving their business acumen and identifying their own style of leadership.

The Leader Within Program focuses on developing participants’ leadership styles and abilities to ensure that each person can leave with an idea of how to be an effective leader for themselves, their co-workers, and for their company. The program is open for working moms who desire to get into a leadership role but feel overwhelmed in preparing for that, don’t know how to balance home life with a new position, and which direction they should get into.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
This has been an amazing opportunity to share Visionary Initiatives, LLC with your readers. If I could leave one thing with your readers, I would encourage them to let go of fear and step into faith for their career. Too many have held onto imposter syndrome, doubt, and fear which has prevented them from experiencing liberation and fulfillment. I encourage readers to do four things:

Forget – Forget every lie that has fed your self doubt and imposter syndrome
Everything – Everything you encounter and experience is to strengthen your character, courage, and confidence
And – You will not be able to do this alone and will have to gain the support of mentors, coaches, and other trusted individuals to keep you accountable in achieving your goals
Run – You can’t continue to run from your dreams. But run towards it!

Let go of FEAR (Forget Everything And Run).
