Inspiring Conversations with Lacy McKinney of Broken to Blessed Apparel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy McKinney.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I have a business called Broken to Blessed Apparel. I couldn’t truly decide what I wanted the name to be, but I wanted to show that you can go through things, and God can still bless you. You may not see it then, but he truly does. When I was 10 my family and I were in a bad motor home crash, and I broke my right femur bone. I had to learn how to walk again. In that, I learned how to work to get my strength back, which took time. I was in the 888 Bestgate Road building when the Capital shooting happened. My coworkers and I came out unharmed and knew nothing about what happened until we left the building. While on vacation that December, I got a text message telling me my family’s house had burned down. Came home with only summer clothes. Neighbors started a gofundme, the church started taking donations, and people started dropping things off. In each instance, God showed his love towards us. I started this business to let people know that you are blessed in the midst of whatever. As a single parent, someone who suffered from depression, someone who lost it all, God is still blessing behind the scene.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road wasn’t always smooth. One thing I am a person who is their own worst critic. So, I have a habit of second-guessing myself, which is a struggle. I have soo many design ideas, but then doubt if someone would like those ideas.  And daily, I have to remind myself that what’s for me, God will bless and not doubt it. God gives visions to people to bring to pass and that we have to do that because it’s to bless others even when we don’t see it.

We’ve been impressed with Broken to Blessed Apparel, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Broken to Blessed Apparel is a t-shirt line at the moment. I love to make inspirational/encouraging/motivating shirts. I love shirts where if you were to read them, the words would change your day. The words would put a smile on your face. I also make custom shirts. I could do that if someone wanted a particular phrase or picture on a shirt. I would say what sets me apart from others is God gives me the phrases I should put on the shirts.

Any big plans?
I plan to do other things with my business. Broken to Blessed can be just more than apparel. I love journals and stickers. I want to try to look into learning how to do those things. I also want to write a book. Maybe one day have my shirts showcased in a store.
