Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Sauers.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am an architectural photographer/cinematographer based in the Maryland, DC and Northern VA (DMV) area and not only serve the mid-Atlantic area but also locations nationwide.
My journey started while I was an airline pilot in the early 1990s. While I had always had a passion for photography in high school and college, the passion grew during layovers in different cities during my pilot life. During those layovers, I was intrigued by the architecture in many of the cities and began taking pictures of buildings for fun. Then the dreaded furlough letter from the airline came. At that time, I had two very young children. As my wife was working, we decided that it was a good time to start an architectural photography business – we’ve never looked back.
That small 1-man photography business has grown into a production company as more and more clients are now asking for video. We are excited for what the future has in store!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
27 years of being in business – you bet we’ve had our struggles. One struggle was deciding whether to grow the business beyond just me. In 2016, my wife left her job and joined me and our growth has continued from there. And, of course, the obvious struggle was the Covid pandemic. Fortunately, we were able to weather that storm.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since 1994, I have been serving the architecture, interior design, hospitality, commercial construction, commercial real estate, home builders and other corporate professionals throughout the US and have developed a reputation for translating ideas into breathtaking images!
As a member of the Association of Independent Architectural Photographers, each assignment is approached with the creativity, experience and service the client demands in today’s competitive climate. All elements of a photoshoot are meticulously planned, taking into consideration time of day, weather conditions, existing lighting available, landscaping, furnishings, vehicles and pedestrian traffic. Additionally, digital clean-up is considered before the image is created to make sure the final images are impeccable.
Shooting with very high-resolution digital camera equipment and skilled use of existing and artificial lighting, combined with being an experts at Adobe Photoshop, my staff and I can create absolutely gorgeous images that can be used from web pages to billboards with virtually no loss in quality. And now, we provide videography/video production to showcase lifestyles for hotels, resorts, real estate management, developers, architects, construction, educational institutions, medical facilities, and corporations.
Specialties: Architecture photography, interior design, lifestyle, aerial/drone, construction, corporate/industrial, and landscape architecture photography and videography.
Ah, the future. Definitely looking forward to building the business. And as Paul said to the Colossians, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men… You are serving the Lord Christ” (Col. 3:23-24).
