Inspiring Conversations with Jacqui Smith of Sanctuary Lightwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqui Smith.

Jacqui, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Had you told me ten years ago, while working a desk job surrounded by government contracts and military software, that at 35 I would be smack dab in the middle of a spiritual awakening…I would have told you to get lost, probably in slightly more colorful language.

Had you told me the same thing 25 years ago as a ten years old making witches potions in my grandmother’s backyard, discreetly I might add – she was a super Christian that would have clutched her proverbial pearls at the thought – I would have asked you what took me so long.

Cut to 7 years ago when my husband and I found ourselves expecting our first and only human child (we have several non-human children). We lived a 4 hour drive from my family and, my husband being an English transplant, an 8 hour flight from his. We decided that we needed to live closer to family. My husband is able to work from home and I decided to leave my job to stay home with our daughter, so we packed up and headed back to my hometown, two decisions I would have never thought that I would make.

Not having a full-time career to focus on and being at home with this tiny human that I have to turn into a functioning member of society had me questioning my path. What is my purpose here? What example do I want to set? What do I feel passionate about? I tried some things, but nothing lit me up. Then one day, about three years ago, I saw that there was going to be a tarot reader at a local wine bar. I asked my mom to go with me and she did. We had our spookily accurate readings and that was it for me. A non-extinguishable spark was lit within me and I started rocketing down my spiritual path.

Since then, I have earned my Master Certification in Reiki (a type of energy work), became a registered yoga teacher, have been reading tarot professionally for nearly two years and I couldn’t be happier.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but life’s most important experiences rarely are. My main job for the past 6+ years has been staying home with my daughter. While I love her more than anything in the universe, it can be a lonely, exhausting more-than-full-time job. At the beginning of 2020, I finally started really getting out in the community and securing spaces in which to offer reiki. Everything was going well, I was making contacts and local yoga studio owners were open to having me offer reiki in their spaces. My daughter was set to go to kindergarten in the fall, which would allow me to focus a lot more on my career. Then the world shut down. I didn’t even get a chance to start really working. So I switched gears back to full-time mom, and my big plans to focus on my career were on hold again. We decided that virtual school was not the best option for us, so I began homeschooling, allowing me even less time to focus on building my business. Over a year later, we’ve found a good balance and I have made space for myself to do the work that I love so much. I have had regular, COVID safe, in person tarot events at local businesses for several months and have more lined up. I offer all of my services online via email or video chat, which I actually really love, but I am also going to start offering one-on-one in person services at a local co-working space.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have a Master Certification in Reiki, am a Registered Yoga Teacher and have been reading tarot professionally for about two years. I help women & femmes re/connect to their intuition through tarot, energy work and conscious movement. Each of my offerings is tailored to the client and is designed to help them connect more deeply to their own intuition and provide energetic healing. My aim is to create a safe space for women/femmes on their spiritual journeys. I want potential clients to know that whatever they come to me for, they will find a soft spot to land. An affirming, non-judgmental space to ask questions, work toward healing and step into their power.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I have found Instagram to be a wonderful way to connect not only with clients but with fellow witchy/spiritual business owners as well.

My main account is @sanctuarylightwork and that is where I offer free weekly tarot readings, custom tarot spreads and talk all things energy. That’s also where people can learn more about what I offer and reach out to me to set up a session.

Working with and supporting fellow women/femme-owned businesses is something that is very important to me, so I have created a space for that as well. @workinwitch on Instagram is an inclusive business coven where fellow witchy/spiritual business owners can come together to ask business questions freely, share knowledge for the betterment of the community and support our favorite witchy/spiritual businesses.

You can also email me at sanctuarylightwork@gmail.com with any questions or to set up a session.
