Inspiring Conversations with Erica Hampton of InJoy by Erica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Hampton.

Hi Erica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
With the support and encouragement of my husband, I started InJoy in February of 2021 after being laid off from my job for 9 years; before working that job, I had a dream job, planning meetings and events across the country. While I loved that job, a tragic event occurred when my son passed away, making me rethink my time away from my family. So, I ended up getting a desk job in a different industry. My love for event planning had always stayed with me, so when I was laid off, I saw this as an opportunity to fulfill my dreams and supply a need for unique, intimate gatherings during the pandemic.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The beginning was not easy. We launched in February 2021 and rolled out our igloo services, which was fairly new to DMV and wasn’t well received initially as most people didn’t understand the concept. The business was slow until picnic season arrived. Once the Winter season came around, our igloos began receiving the love we knew they would.

We’ve been impressed with InJoy by Erica, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
InJoy by Erica specializes in event planning for intimate events. We are also known for our luxury glamping, igloo, and picnic experiences, which allow us to serve intimate gatherings in the DMV all year round. I’m proud that I’ve set my brand as the upscale specialty event rental company in the area. My goal with InJoy is to create an intimate space for real connections and celebratory events.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I visited Ocean City each Summer. I and my sister and family friends would go swimming and roam the boardwalk all day. My mom would allow us to run free all day. We just had to return to the hotel when it got dark.
