Today we’d like to introduce you to Bradley Guerra.
Hi Bradley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Green Acres Landscaping is a family-run business rooted in North Potomac and built on long-term relationships.
The company was started over 30 years ago by my father, Adrian Guerra, after he immigrated to the U.S. from Guatemala in the 1980s. He began with one truck, a strong work ethic, and a simple philosophy: show up, do quality work, and treat people fairly. That approach allowed Green Acres to grow steadily while serving the same neighborhoods year after year.
I grew up around the business. Some of my earliest memories are riding along with my dad to job sites and watching him build real trust with customers. Landscaping wasn’t just work, it was how he supported our family and became part of the community. Many of the customers we work with today are people he began serving more than two decades ago.
As my brother Nicholas and I got older, we naturally stepped into the business. Nicholas worked in the field, while I combined hands-on experience with formal education in horticulture and turfgrass management. Together, we learned the trade the same way our father did, by being present, paying attention to details, and standing behind our work.
Today, my father is retired and living back in Guatemala on his farm, something he worked toward for many years. Green Acres is now run by my brother and me, and we continue to operate with the same values that built the company in the first place.
We’re not a franchise and we’re not a revolving-door crew. We’re a local company that believes consistency, communication, and reliability matter. Our goal is simple: take care of our customers’ properties the way we would want ours taken care of.
We’re grateful for the families who have trusted us for decades and excited to continue growing while staying true to what made Green Acres successful in the first place.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any long-standing family business, the road hasn’t been perfectly smooth, but it’s those experiences that shaped who we are today.
One of the biggest challenges early on was growth. As the company expanded beyond a small client base, we had to learn how to scale responsibly. Managing schedules, crews, equipment, and customer communication at a higher volume requires strong systems and constant refinement. That transition came with lessons, but it pushed us to become more organized, consistent, and professional in how we operate.
Weather and seasonality have also always been part of the landscape industry. Learning how to plan around unpredictable conditions, adjust schedules, and still deliver dependable service year after year took experience and discipline.
Being a family business added another layer. Working alongside family means holding yourself to an even higher standard. Over time, we learned how to clearly define roles, modernize operations, and blend old-school work ethic with more efficient, forward-thinking practices. That balance didn’t happen overnight, but it’s now one of our greatest strengths.
Hiring and retaining good people has been another ongoing challenge in this industry. Training takes time, and quality matters. We’ve learned that investing in our team, setting clear expectations, and building a strong culture is the only way to deliver consistent results for our customers.
Today, those challenges are behind us in the best way. They forced us to grow up as a business. We’re not perfect, but we’re prepared, experienced, and confident in our systems. The lessons learned over decades allow us to deliver reliable service, communicate clearly, and take care of our customers the right way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Green Acres Landscaping?
Green Acres Landscaping is a full-service landscaping company based in Montgomery County, Maryland, with deep roots in the local community. Our core focus and bread and butter is weekly lawn maintenance and lawn care, and we’ve built our reputation on doing the fundamentals exceptionally well, consistently, and professionally.
Weekly lawn maintenance for us means more than just mowing. Every visit includes mowing with top-of-the-line commercial equipment using sharp blades, precise string trimming in all areas the mower can’t reach, clean edging of flower and mulch beds, crisp metal edging along driveways and curbs, and a full blow-off of all hardscapes for a clean, finished look. We pay close attention to timing, weather, and turf health so lawns are serviced when they need it, not too often and not too late.
Our lawn care programs always begin with a soil assessment, allowing us to customize treatments based on the actual needs of the lawn rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. From there, we combine proper mowing practices with targeted treatments and homeowner guidance on watering and seasonal care to keep lawns healthy year-round.
Beyond lawn care, we offer landscape maintenance packages designed to make property care simple and hands-free. Our spring cleanup and bed maintenance programs include pruning, ornamental shaping, weed removal, bed edging, and fresh mulch installation. Ongoing quarterly bed maintenance ensures landscapes stay clean, intentional, and well-maintained throughout the year. We also handle end-of-season leaf cleanups and offer winter snow and ice management packages that operate automatically based on weather conditions, so customers never have to chase down service.
What truly sets us apart is professionalism, experience, and communication. We’ve invested heavily in modern systems, clear scheduling, and proactive customer communication because we believe reliability and transparency matter just as much as the quality of the work itself. Our team is trained, our processes are refined, and our goal is to make landscaping something customers never have to worry about.
Brand-wise, we’re especially proud of our name and identity. The three trees in our logo represent the foundation of the company: our father, who built the business, and the two brothers who now operate it. The name Green Acres itself is a nod to the company’s original roots, blending legacy with growth and a new generation of leadership.
We want readers to know that Green Acres Landscaping is built for homeowners who value consistency, quality, and ease. From instant online quotes and simple onboarding to dependable service week after week, our focus is on delivering great results while making the entire experience straightforward and stress-free.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is simple: take the leap and start now.
There’s a saying I’ve always liked: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today. It applies perfectly to starting a business. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect, because it never will be. Do your research, be thoughtful, but at some point you have to move forward and start.
Mistakes are part of the process. You’re going to make them no matter how prepared you are, and that’s okay. The key is learning from them, adjusting, and showing up every day committed to being just a little better than you were yesterday.
Something I wish I understood earlier is that building something of your own is stressful, but it’s a meaningful kind of stress. There’s a deep sense of purpose that comes from working to support your family while also building something lasting. Creating a business you’re proud of, one that reflects your values and can eventually become a legacy, makes the hard days worth it.
If you’re willing to work hard, stay consistent, and keep learning, it’s absolutely worth the effort.
