Inspiring Conversations with Belinda Davis of Sixth & Rose Salon and Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Davis.

Hi Belinda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Sixth & Rose Salon and Spa were birthed on October 30th, 2018 by three partners Belinda, Samantha, and Darnell. This venture was no fairytale, no gimmick, not even a walk in the park. It was a dream that turned into reality for all three of us sharing the same common interest, art. Samantha’s counterpart to art is her poetry to beauty since she was a young girl.

That passion of hers drove her to become a Licensed Cosmetologist and a Certified Microblading Instructor. Darnell and I together had a love affair with art from the very beginning and this was through music, fashion, and beauty. Our journey started when we decided to start our very own fashion company, Franklin Michelle which then inspired us to become entrepreneurs. Collectively we all had something to bring to the table and it was a no-brainer to create a space that was very familiar to us. We see many hairstylists creating masterpieces from all walks of life and we took notice that there was a gap in the industry with diversity.

The question for us was not “why” but “why not.” Why not create a space of diversity for hairstylists and clients. How can we see the beauty of all art under one roof? That became the vision and concept of Sixth & Rose Salon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No business is an easy process. We went through trial and error like any other and we are still growing and learning. The job task at hand becomes very repetitive and the beauty industry itself is very competitive but the key is to stay consistent and knowledgeable of patterns and new trends. We had the impact of closure due to Covid but luckily we were able to reopen our doors when the mandate was lifted. We were very fortunate during that time.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sixth & Rose Salon and Spa. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sixth and Rose Salon & Spa is a full-service salon that provides exceptional hair care, beauty services, and products such as Aveda and Joico. We make it a staple to keep up with the latest trends and our team is dedicated to providing the highest level of professionalism and expertise.

We specialize and offer services such as all hair color concepts, Brazilian blowouts, men and women cuts, hair extensions, microblading, and microblading classes. Our mission is to keep a long-lasting relationship of commitment and care. We love hair!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for hairstylists and or beauty professionals is to always work on your craft, stay on top of trends, don’t be afraid to think outside the box, always take good quality pictures of your work to showcase, utilize all the free resources to build your book, be yourself, and choose your salon home wisely.

Avoid becoming a salon hopper as it can cause a negative reflection of your commitment to the industry and a negative impact on your clients. Last, the profession comes with great rewards but you must do the work. You will not become a millionaire overnight.
