Today we’d like to introduce you to A.C Green.
Hi A.C, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After doing 8 years in prison and coming home in February 2012 I noticed that the style of dress was different. When I went to prison Jay Z had my peers and I in button-up shirts, but now most people are wearing what they call designer clothing.
I also noticed that the so-called designer that people was wearing was fake. How did I know it was fake? Well because one clear giveaway was if you really had on a thousand-dollar outfit you would not be standing on the bus stop waiting on the bus.
Me considering myself a real and stand-up person I would have been obligated to wear the real and not the fake, so instead I decided not to do neither or because playing that game would only have led me back to prison trying to live a lifestyle, I could not afford at the time legally.
I was not sure what style or brand of clothing I was going to start wearing, but I was sure I was not going to find it in stores. I looked online hoping to find a brand that people in my city was not aware about because I wanted to be different from everyone else, but I had no luck. When I was doing my search and if I was asked what I was looking for my reply would have been I don’t know, but I will when I see it.
One day I finally accepted the fact that I would not find the style of clothing that I was looking for. What I was looking for had to come threw me and only me. That’s the day I realized I had to start my own brand. First, I had to come up with a name. The first name I thought of was my government name. I quickly scratched that idea. I said to myself that I would hold that name for maybe a luxury brand later on down the line. Next, I thought of my nickname that my childhood friend gave me A.C Green because he said I looked like A.C Green the basketball player. I turned A.C to Cool and now you have Cool Green and that is how Cool Green Clothing was born.
Originally Cool Green Clothing was only created for me to wear. Then I said to myself who creates a clothing line just for them. Plus, everyone’s reaction to my brand was positive so I had to give the people what they wanted. I started out selling my brand to friends and family then my clientele grew from there. Now it’s been over three years since I started my brand. It have been an unpredictable but fun journey through trial and error. I credit myself success to keeping faith and never giving up.
Please see for yourself what my brand has to offer on my website coolgreenclothing.com and in-person in downtown Baltimore, MD 215 W Saratoga St
Peace And Blessings,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Finding time to work on my brand coming up with different clothing styles
Learning about different clothing materials
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I want when people around world hear or see my brand, they instantly think of my city Baltimore City.
I create the styles and work with different manufactures nationally and international. I promote my brand online and threw traditional advertisement. I maintain my website and make sales in person at my downtown location.
My story of how I started my brand sets me apart from others. I did not start my brand because I wanted to start a business to make money. I started my brand because I did not agree on how society said I should dress.
I want the readers to know this that every day I wake up I don’t know what the day may bring. I just pray I have more good days than bad ones and that God will continue to bless me to be able to feed myself and my family threw my brand.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
