Hidden Gems: Meet Sheldon Kinsler of Sheldon Kinsler with The King Homes Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheldon Kinsler.

Hi Sheldon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Baltimore, I attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), with plans to attend medical school afterward. After graduating with music and a pre-med degree, I realized that another 4 years of school and lots of additional debt wasn’t the life I wanted. I briefly got a job in the mortgage industry before realizing that the real estate agents I worked with daily had a better time and life than I currently had. After getting laid off from my job as a loan officer assistant, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to follow my dreams and go full force into the real estate industry. I searched around for the perfect brokerage before finding a fantastic team to join. With the guidance and support I received right away. I was able to excel and fall in love with real estate quickly. Now I’m 5 months in and loving everything about it!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When starting anything, the road is never really smooth at first, but when you’re willing to put in the work and have a great teacher and team behind you, the road smooths out much faster. Unlike most agents that start doing real estate on the side while they have another job, I went in and started doing real estate full time. This came with a lot of stress as I didn’t have any other source of income, but this just encouraged me to work even harder and push myself to become successful because I didn’t give myself any other choice. Constantly making cold calls, attending open houses, door knocking, and even driving Uber to meet people and grow my business took a little while to show themselves but eventually, things started happening. I started to get calls returned, and doors answered. I also can’t stress the importance of having a good coach and team supporting you. While I know my work ethic has helped me a lot, having someone push you, teach you, and support you can get you further.

I’m a residential real estate agent with The King Homes Group. I love helping both buyers and sellers. Being able to help people find their dream home and help them through the difficult process of both buying and selling is such a great feeling. To me, this isn’t just a job. I have a lot of fun helping people and exploring the real estate. The fact that I get to make a living doing just that is a bonus! I feel that one of the biggest parts of being a realtor is making connections with people and treating them as more than just clients. I treat each person I work with like a great friend or family member. The whole process is much more enjoyable for everyone when it becomes more than a stale business transaction. I hope to help as many people as possible achieve their dream of home ownership, whether that means helping them buy their first or even their seventh home! Being able to go above and beyond for each client is what I pride myself in and keeps me going! Everyone deserves a realtor that works as hard for their dreams as they do.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Find a coach or a teacher. You need to work as hard as you can and do everything you can to learn and progress on your own, but having a coach to teach you and support you, especially when you’re just starting, will take you so much further, so much faster. I recommend interviewing team leaders to find the best one for you. You should find someone that shares your goals and ambitions and wants you to succeed just as badly as you want to.

One thing I love about this job is that you get out what you put into it. I find that many agents don’t fully understand this. They might make a few calls or post a few times on social media in their free time and then get discouraged when they don’t see immediate results for their little bit of work. Especially in the beginning, you need to work your ass off. If you want to succeed and get everything you want, you need to work. The harder you work and learn, the more luck and results you’ll have. You got this!
