Hidden Gems: Meet Raelle Reid of Naptown Photo Booths

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raelle Reid.

Hi Raelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Starting as a passing idea between our parents to do in their free time, we evolved the idea into a business. This business is a legacy we honor our late mother with as it was her idea, yet we hope to pass it down to our daughter when she is older. I love photography and planning events for loved ones; my husband loves technology and helping others. This business was just the perfect fit!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is not something my husband nor I envisioned for ourselves. We’re risk-takers, but they’re very calculated and in our heads, starting a business was a little too risky. The joke’s on us because now we have three businesses! Essentially, we don’t like to fail. However, once we became parents, we wanted to build a legacy for our family. We realized failure was a part of the journey to success. I mean, that’s parenthood, right?

So, after research and practice, we created Naptown Photo Booths. We struggled at first with marketing and opportunities. We spent a lot of money on marketing with companies that really didn’t help us gain clients. We quickly parted ways with these companies and tried to gain business through our own efforts—family and friends! After months of silence, we booked our first official event, word-of-mouth became our best friend and we began to gain traction. We had steady business for about six months before the pandemic. Since March 2020, for our family’s safety and the safety of others, we have not provided our services to events until recently. Now our struggle is regaining the momentum we once had!

We’ve been impressed with Naptown Photo Booths, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Naptown Photo Booths is a family-owned photo booth rental company dedicated to providing high-quality and personable service. We service Washington D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.

Our photo booths capture high-quality pictures and have fun features, such as videos, gifs, and digital props. We can text, email, and print the pictures on-site. We really pride ourselves on being personable and detail-oriented. We go out of our way to ensure that each detail of our services matches the event and the client’s vision. We try to do our best to cater to the needs of the client to ensure our photo booth services is the highlight of the event.

Most of all, we really enjoy providing these services! And that joy spreads to the guests of the event. Even the least tech-savvy or photogenic guest has a great time! We believe in building memories to cherish!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Obviously, my husband and I (Raelle and Brent Reid) created and ran this business, but we don’t necessarily do it alone. We have a great support system! However, there are a few special people that really hold us down. First, our parents (my in-laws)—Bruce & Pamela Reid—gave us the idea and invested in the business. Also, Pop Pop (Bruce) is the caregiver of our daughter whenever we have an event. We literally could run this business without him! Lastly, our daughter, Braelen, is the reason and motivation. A portion of the profit goes towards her education funding. She’s only a toddler, but she helps us test and prep for events.
