Hidden Gems: Meet Mallory Jones of JamCam 360

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Jones.

Hi Mallory, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
JamCam 360 was born after attending my best friend’s wedding. My husband and I attended the wedding in Memphis, TN in November 2019 and we got the opportunity to interact with a 360 video booth during the wedding reception. Photo booths always provide classic fun, but the 360 video booth provided a fresh new twist to the experience. It was a crowd-pleaser all night long. By the end of the night, not only was I moved by all the love in the air, but also inspired to break out of my 8-5 mold and become a business owner.

Now I’ll be honest, this definitely wasn’t the first time that I had been inspired to start a business; ideas were always coming and going, but for some reason, this particular idea kept lingering long after the wedding was over. One night I was having trouble falling asleep and I decided to do a quick google search to see what our local Phoenix market offered; I was shocked to see that the 360 video booth had no presence in our area.

Once I finished the market research, I dove in and attempted to learn as much as I could about the event/gig industry and photo booth community. I won’t bore you with all the details, but I spent plenty of time late at night or early in the morning doing extensive research and learning all about photography and videography.

We officially opened for business on March 1, 2020. It was unbelievable to see all the planning and hard work pay off. But as we all know, the pandemic hit literally less than two weeks later and everything came to a screeching halt. Of course, I was devastated. It felt like I was never even given the opportunity to prove that we were worthy of a shot.

I was fortunate to maintain my full-time job, and it was actually my career as a pharmacist that led my husband and me to take a leap of faith and relocate to Washington, DC. We arrived here in July 2020. Shortly before we relocated, even though I was unsure of JamCam 360’s fate, I updated our business contact information on our website and socials, yet our business continued to remain dormant due to Covid-19.

One day, we randomly received a lead from someone interested in booking us for their birthday party in DC. It was time to dust off the equipment and reignite the fire that we had prior to the pandemic. We haven’t looked back since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obviously, the pandemic affected us in ways that we never could have imagined; but we definitely experienced non-pandemic-related challenges along the way. We had to overcome a pretty steep learning curve since we were emerging in a completely new industry. Our goal is to provide high-quality deliverables and unmatched customer service. We are constantly looking into new technology and innovative ways to enhance our customers’ experience. It’s also worth noting that we moved our company across the country, so we had to start from scratch with building our customer base and connections locally. Everything we’ve encountered so far has helped to strengthen us.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Be agile and open-minded. Don’t get in your own way by sticking to a plan that may no longer work for you or your customers. You may be set on targeting a certain market, charging a certain price, or even expanding or scaling down your services; but, you must remain flexible and truly listen to what customers want. We’ve evolved so much since launching, whether it’s regarding certain services, processes, or pricing. I believe we will remain successful as long as we are willing to adapt.
