Hidden Gems: Meet Lo Ivey of Framed by Lo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lo Ivey.

Hi Lo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Washington, DC, I always had a passion for the fast-paced lifestyle. After high school, I decided to further my education at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University, where I studied my passion, Public Relations.

Throughout my matriculation, I interned for many companies and agencies, big and small, which led me to find my niche within the sports and entertainment industries (mostly sports!). After college, I began to freelance and work under some of the top publicists within the Atlanta area.

This gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to succeed. I was blessed to work with and around many star athletes, actors, actresses, music artists, and more. After gaining the skills I needed to become the best I can in Public Relations, I decided to bring my talents back home to Washington, DC. For almost three years, I worked in communications within the non-profit space.

Throughout the pandemic in 2020, I began teaching myself about financial literacy and gained interest in the idea of having “multiple streams of income”. I would often ask myself “how can I make money in my sleep?” I thought and prayed about it and finally, I came up with the idea of starting my own sunglasses boutique.

Why sunglasses? They are my FAVORITE accessory and I took pride in making a collection of them. From many designers, frame shapes, and colors. I knew this was something I was passionate about on my own that I would be consistent with. In 2021, I put my plan together and used my PR and branding background to create what would now be Framed by Lo.

I launched Framed by Lo in January 2022 and it has been a joy tapping into entrepreneurship. Each day has its obstacles, but it is worth the ride. I look forward to seeing what this small business will bring to my life!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Each day has its challenges, whether big or small. For me, it was having to teach myself new marketing skills that I haven’t yet learned. Marketing is everything.

It also took me a while to discover my audience. Working in PR, I know that it is clear not everyone is your customer. I had to dive deep to find out who my ideal customer was and how do I speak directly to them. Also, sacrificing a lot of things you are used to can be difficult but so worth it.

Instead of spending money out and about, I would put my money aside to make sure that I have enough to pay for what I needed to make my business run.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Framed by Lo?

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is having a goal and doing whatever it takes to complete it.

It doesn’t matter how you start, just as long as you finish. Success is when you have done something that makes you proud that you did it.

Success is accomplishing something and not caring what others think of the result. Success is you being at peace with what you have put out into the world.
