Today we’d like to introduce you to Lloyd Meeks.
Hi Lloyd, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out just when I was in elementary school. I always had a strong interest in animals and nature in general. As kids, my friends and I would go around the neighborhood finding different snakes and lizards while researching how to care for them as well.
Although West Baltimore has been known for its crime in the eyes of some, we were able to see the city through better lenses. I thank my parents especially for putting me in the best position possible to able to excel in life.
Throughout middle school, I was given an opportunity to dive deeper into understanding nature even more through the National Park Trust’s “Buddy Bison” program. At that moment, I knew that I wanted to know more about aquatic life around the world.
Now, I have the opportunity to share my knowledge with my kids and with other people who had some interests as I did growing up.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of my biggest challenges was just simply knowing where/how to start my business.
Back in 2019, I knew for a fact I wanted to start an aquarium business however I just didn’t know exactly how to put the wheels in motion so I would get discouraged a bit.
However, my lady and I welcomed our first daughter in July of 2019 and by January, I knew that at some point I’d have to take a chance and bet on myself. By August 2020, I had gotten the business up and running on a strong foundation.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about All Things Aquatics?
All Things Aquatics is a professional aquarium business where we specialize in both fresh and saltwater aquariums.
We install, maintain, and provide livestock for home and commercial aquariums as well as the most sustainable methods to care for your aquarium. We travel and ship to 48 out of the 50 states in the US.
We are here for you and your aquarium ideas. We take pride in providing the healthiest fish as well as the least amount of maintenance possible for each of our clients!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next couple of years, we plan on being able to breed more fish in captivity as we continue to learn more about that process.
We also plan on being able to plant corals back in the ocean to be able to help the restoration efforts on ocean reefs.
