Hidden Gems: Meet Linda Taliaferro of The Sinclair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Taliaferro. She shares the story of The Sinclair with us below:

Linda Taliaferro is the owner and Chief Operating Officer of The Sinclair—a premier wedding and event venue located in Baltimore, Maryland. Linda has a robust background in communications and education, which has contributed to her ability to launch and oversee multiple business ventures over the past few years. Linda began her career in broadcasting, starting off as a radio systems administrator and voice-over talent, before branching off into education. Her time was spent primarily working in Baltimore City Public Schools, having served as the district’s Elementary Mathematics Coordinator and Coordinator of Elementary School Transformation and Turnaround. She then branched off into consulting, working for the Charles A. Dana Center of the University of Texas at Austin. It was during her time there that she led the implementation of a large-scale standards project for the United States’ Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).

In this role, Linda traveled around the world to U.S. military bases, organizing, meeting, and coaching teachers and principals. In 2019, she and her husband co-founded The Maesner Group, which oversees a portfolio of business investments and developments in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. It was then that Linda transitioned from her education work to place more focus on her business ventures. In addition to leading operations at The Sinclair, she is also Chief Executive Officer and a Partner of The H3irloom Food Group with renowned chefs David and Tonya Thomas. Though originally from North Carolina, Linda considers Baltimore her hometown since moving there as a teenager. She attended and graduated from both Morgan State University and Johns Hopkins University. She currently lives with her husband and business partner, Floyd Taliaferro IV, and their three children.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road! Some of the challenges we faced were the onset of the pandemic, which not only impacted our construction timelines and projected costs but also complicated our opening this past May 1st. It was a challenge taking a building that had gone through so many iterations and turning it into the beautiful space it is now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Sinclair is a stunning new wedding and event venue located in Baltimore, Maryland. The Sinclair opened its glass doors on May 1, 2021 and is currently open for private tours. The bright modern finishes and interiors, Instagram-worthy gender-neutral restrooms, and complimentary valet parking set this venue apart and above other Baltimore City options.

“When I opened the Sinclair, I wanted to create a space for people like me,” says owner Linda Taliaferro, “people who love Baltimore and want to see their whole lived experience reflected and honored. Baltimore is not just the blue-collar cousin of DC. We want everyone to feel welcome in our space and hope The Sinclair is an injection of energy and originality. “

Other highlights include: 17,000-square-foot event space with three different rooms accommodating 2-300 guests each. The largest Black-owned venue in Baltimore City. Site of Bugle Hall, commemorating Negro League Baseball. Exclusive partnership with The H3irloom Food Group from award-winning Chefs David & Tonya Thomas.
