Hidden Gems: Meet Keiyonna Anthony Watkins of SelfCareWithKei

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keiyonna Anthony Watkins.

Hi Keiyonna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Starting SelfCareWithKei wasn’t an overnight plan. During the pandemic, I began working from home, and with the world locked down, I began to become intrigued with ordering things, specifically candles. I was ordering them by the dozen. My husband made a joke about my ordering, he said that he’s sure I would save lots of money if I made my own candles and that really got me thinking. I’ll admit I was indeed wrong it was not cheaper to make my own candles lol. However, I got the satisfaction that I couldn’t explain. I started to imagine a life where self-care was a luxury everyone could afford. Then I got the motivation to offer those luxuries and my very little need for my own endless supply of candles turned into a company that can offer the average person all the luxuries they desire. Today, only 5 months into my small business, I offer candles, a self-care line, and an SK Luxury collection along with moisturizing body butter. I am currently testing out other products to add to my collections.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to entrepreneurship has been a journey. No road is smooth and this one was no different. Handling the business aspect, production and marketing can be overwhelming. Learning to juggle the different roles has been a welcomed challenge. That is the only struggle I have encountered. However, patience, pacing myself, and seeing my vision through have kept me going. The excitement from picturing the future of the business also keeps me grounded.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SelfCareWithKei?
SelfCareWithKei is a luxury brand that currently offers candles and body butter. It is a lifestyle dedicated to ensuring the prioritizing of one’s self-care. The brand will evolve but self-care will always be the main priority. This season (spring/summer) my best-selling fragrance is Citrus and this is usually purchased with the Mango body butter.

Providing a self-care service is what sets me apart from others. I make it my business to find out what relaxes my customers, what they are in need of at that particular moment and I take that information and customize their recommendations. Each customer receives a customized experience.

My proudest moment is when someone purchased a Lavender body butter and candle and the next day I received an email and she wanted me to know that the lavender helped calm her anxiety. The candle relaxed her and the body butter allowed her to sleep better that night. I had a customer for life and she had a calmness she hadn’t experienced in quite some time. However, I am proud of everything. This is my baby and I am in awe of watching the growth. Being able to see where I started to where I am now has been amazing.

SelfCare is a lifestyle that everyone deserves and I will continue to spread that to everyone who will listen. If you just so happen to be taking a bath and lighting a SelfcarewithKei candle, then that’s even better.

What matters most to you? Why?
Self-care matters the most to me because we get so consumed with our daily lives, families, and work that we forget about ourselves. We forget about our mental health and what matters to us. So, maintaining and making one’s self-care a priority is what matters to Selfcarewithkei.
