Hidden Gems: Meet Drew and Brooke Shaulson and Woodard of Complete Athletic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew and Brooke Shaulson and Woodard.

Hi Drew and Brooke, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Complete Athletic started in 2018 under the name of Lean Force, when Drew was a college student and personal trainer at UPenn. It was a workout/nutrition page, but catered more to college students looking to get shredded. He focused more on nutrition, as that was part of his degree. At that time, Brooke was a Division One soccer player and psychology major at Penn as well (and their leading goal scorer). Fast forward to 2020 when Drew and Brooke started dating and COVID was in full swing, the two wanted to continue their passions for fitness, nutrition, and holistic wellness , and use them to help others. Thus, Lean Force became Complete Athletic (which the name encompasses complete, athlete, competition, compete, etc), and it became a platform to be a well-rounded athlete both on the field, in the kitchen, and mentally. The two then started online coaching, where they design fitness plans and do 1 : 1 nutrition coaching for their clients, and they both really enjoy the connections they have been able to make as coaches.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be honest, it’s been a pretty smooth road, but just like any endeavor, it has its fun stages, growth stages and plateaus. It can definitely be challenging at times to maintain a full-time (maybe even more) job as a consultant for Drew and a full-time student getting her masters in cognitive neuroscience for Brooke.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Complete Athletic is a fitness programming and coaching platform built by two Ivy League students who want to share their fitness success with others. Drew and Brooke are a great team. We live together, work together, and encourage each other to be our best. The best part of their partnership for Complete Athletic is that they both have very different backgrounds, and they complement each other perfectly. What sets Complete Athletic apart is that the two have an excellent understanding of where science/data meets practicality and emotions. Lots of people can tell you what the science says, but few can tell you what that means for your life. Brooke’s background in psychology/cognitive neuroscience allows her to understand how we think and feel as individuals, and how people feel during bouts of physical activity, and why. This truly shows in her coaching and has also balanced Drew, who is more of a quantitative thinker.

Brooke and Drew are most proud of their message. When people reach out to them, they very frequently let them know how inspired they are by the approach Complete Athletic takes to fitness, and it makes them feel awesome that people are listening and truly buying into their message.
