Exploring Life & Business with Darvincia Warren of DW Tax Preparation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darvincia Warren.

Hi Darvincia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I decided nearly ten years ago to enter the realm of finance, mainly because I knew nothing about money. I knew that it was possible to have it in abundance because I saw it on television. However, I wanted to know how to make it possible for my family.

I felt what better way to learn more about money than to build a business surrounded by the education of money. I knew early on in life that I wanted to fight traditions because traditionally we were taught to get good grades in school, head to college, and land a “good-paying job”.

However, here is what I was told as a child, was the richest country in the world, I saw so many working for years and retiring with nothing. It was apparent to me that this was a tradition I would fight to break, but never had an idea of the impact I would later be able to make.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge has always been myself.

I believe it’s the biggest, but the most overlooked challenge for almost all of us. One of my biggest lessons has been that mental toughness can get you through any challenge.

For me to achieve any level of success or make any type of impact, I had to realize that in life we will always face challenges, but that it is whether we choose to stay in them or rise above them that makes all the difference.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about DW Tax Preparation LLC?
My mission is to lead families to the financial freedom that life caused them to forget was possible. I teach people the money secrets that would have been far more beneficial than some of the subjects we had in school.

Families are easily able to identify where they want to be financially, and I step in and provide a “Financial GPS” to ensure they get to their destination. I help families to see that instead of watching television and having them “tell us their vision”, it’s possible to create that same quality of life for our families and create a cycle of generational wealth.

In addition to obtaining certifications as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business, (EDWOSB), Women Business Enterprise (WBE), and County Based Small Business (CBSB), DW Tax Preparation LLC is also a member of the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., DC Chamber of Commerce, and the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce.

With a continued focus on bridging the wealth gap, and encouraging economic diversity, we were also awarded as one of the Top 36 Best Tax Services in Washington for 2022. This award scores Washington, DC Tax Services on more than 25 variables across five categories and analyzes the results to determine the best. The categories are availability, qualifications, reputation, experience, and professionalism, and is an award that we have also received six consecutive years prior.

In the past year, we have also put more than $8.8 million of income protection in place for middle-income families, minimizing, if not removing the financial burden that their families would have otherwise experienced. We also uncovered over $150,000 in income tax refunds for taxpayers and are the partner tax and financial firm for Potomac High School in Prince George’s County.

With times of financial uncertainty at an all-time high, we also provided complimentary tax services to homeless citizens to allow them to receive their stimulus payments.

Lastly, we were a sponsor for a local charity SneakHer Fashion Show in honor of Women’s History Month, where we collectively donated $10,000 to a single mother towards the start-up of a business.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe heavily in seeking mentorship. When we think of some of the greatest athletes, do we believe they became their best on or off the court?

Off the court is where they received coaching and mentorship; we then saw the results on the court or the field. I have found my greatest growth in seeking guidance from my mentors because it positions me to always stretch my thinking.

We only know what we know, but the mind is like a rubber band. Once it’s been stretched, it cannot go back to its original capacity. So I will always seek mentorship and think anyone with a desire to be successful would be wise to as well.
