Exploring Life & Business with Alma Reyes of Remax 100

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alma Reyes.

Alma, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is somewhat funny because I started taking Real Estate course to accompany a friend, she was always making an excuse to not go and I thought that me going with her was my way of supporting. At that time, we both worked for a bank and I was very happy I had been there for 5 years. I was happy because they had just given me a promotion and had a decent income, I had many benefits including 5 weeks of paid vacations a year, it was really a dream. At that time, I had just had my second son Sebastian and just days before returning to work from my maternity leave, I realized that I was pregnant again with my third daughter Emely, and that was when I began to realize that my 8 am job -6pm I was keeping me away from them. I didn’t see my children until night if I was lucky, they weren’t already sleeping. Every day it was harder for me to take them to a medical appointment, I was still going to college and pregnant again… I started to more researching about opportunities to earn more money and be able to work my own schedule and that’s how I started to focus on classes, my reason was no longer to accompany my friend but to learn the business and make it my business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all when you’re new to something and you don’t have a guide there’re mean people that will pass over you and take advantage of you. in my first-year Clients have used me only for information and have gone with other agents. It was a Loan officers who have left me stranded with clients and never again answered the phone and how to forget that in one of my first closings another agent convinced me to lower our commission to help his seller only to realize that the only commission that was taken away was mine, But I have learned from I. I have learned to say no and to fire clients who are only trying to use me or don’t respect my work. It’s hard to say no especially when we are talking about money.

We’ve been impressed with Remax 100, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the mother of three children (two girls and one boy) I am bilingual, I am licensed in Maryland. I enjoy learning strategic ways to help my clients with all their real estate needs. I am a strong listener; my priority is to meet the needs and expectations while analyzing every aspect of the real estate process.

“For me, customer service Is a plus, while I was in the banking area, I won different awards for exemplary customer service. I’ve brought that same work ethic to my real estate business”. “My goal is to make my customers’ experience memorable, and one they would share with family and friends”.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people only know or see what I have now but not how it started. I married my husband at 19 and had my first daughter at 20. My husband and I started renting a small room with our first daughter, in our almost 9 years of marriage which sometimes feels forever. We have both been able to build our businesses. He has a commercial construction business and I’m in Real Estate, I’m still in college studying criminal justice. We are full-time parents. We have a beautiful house and I think at our age we have more than most young people have at this age.
