Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyanna Smith.
Hi Tyanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After working in Corporate America for close to 20 years, I often wondered what my purpose was. I was amazing at my job but just not fulfilled. At that time, I knew I had a passion for two things: solving problems and helping people. Complacency allowed me to stay in that corporate position until August 2018 when I was laid off.
After several months of applying for managerial positions, and not landing anything; my husband asked, “What about Real Estate?” My response was, “No, I don’t think I have the hustle for that”. In the days to follow, Real Estate Social Media posts started to stand out to me; along with another close friend asking if I ever considered trying Real Estate.
I then decided to contact someone I knew and trusted who was thriving in Real Estate; to ask why she started and what her experience has been. That person was Hope Mims, Owner-Broker of Mims Realty Group. In our conversation, Hope explained why she loves Real Estate, how it changes lives, and how she thought I would be phenomenal at it. She said she knew my personality and my work ethic, and she knew I would make an amazing Realtor.
I was so humbled and motivated by our conversation, I went into action. I enrolled in the Real Estate Licensing class and passed the Licensing exam within two months. I interviewed with a couple of Brokerages, as Hope suggested, before making the best decision to join Mims Realty Group. I joined Mims Realty Group with more than 20 years of experience as a direct, decisive, client-focused Telecom professional. As a Baltimore native, I graduated from the best high school in the city, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Next, I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Communications from the University of Maryland, College Park, and later my Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. It’s the culmination of my educational and professional experiences, coupled with my passion for solving problems and helping families, that makes me the Realtor I am today.
As a Realtor, I understand that I’m serving a purpose larger than myself. I’m dedicated to helping clients achieve their Real Estate goals. Understanding and navigating Real Estate transactions can be daunting, but I work as my client’s advocate to ensure their transaction is as seamless as possible. It’s this type of passion and dedication that has propelled me to Mims Realty Group’s Top Performing Agent for the last two years.
As a wife and mother of two young boys, I believe family is everything and “there’s no place like home”. I take great pride in serving the families of Baltimore in making their Real Estate dreams come true.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With every Real Estate transaction, there is a lesson to be learned. I’ve grown so much as a Realtor by these learning lessons. My biggest lesson is to understand that Real Estate transactions are not all smooth but having a couple of core fundamental practices is key. For instance, documentation is EVERYTHING.
If it’s not documented in writing, it did not happen. Also, communication is essential. Clients need to know and understand each phase of this process. Lastly, handle clients with care. Purchasing or selling a home can be very emotional. Clients need to know you empathize with them and you are vested in seeing them achieve their goals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love all types of Real Estate Transactions, but my niche is clients looking to Buy and Sell. These dual transactions require an experienced Realtor who understands both sides of the process along with the critical timeframes both require. Clients can feel overwhelmed with the thought of both selling the home they’ve owned and loved for years along purchasing a new home to start a new chapter of life. That’s where I come in.
I love laying out the process for clients to ensure they are clear and confident that I will get the job done. I take a very personal approach with my clients. I’m always available to them for questions or concerns. Before we get started, they are clear on what needs to be done and when. And before they know it, their current home will be sold and they will receive the keys to their new Dream Home!
I’m most proud to say I have helped several families sell and purchase their homes and it’s these same families who refer me to their friends and families because of their experience with me.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am a Realtor driven by purpose. I know that it was God that orchestrated my steps which led me on the path to Real Estate. Once I stopped living in fear, trusted God, and believed in myself, that’s when I started living in my purpose.
