Today we’d like to introduce you to Suraju Kehinde.
Hi Suraju, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I have lived in Baltimore Maryland my whole life in a row house with a mother from Maryland and a father from Nigeria. I was always interested in how things work and the arts from a young age. In high school, I started practicing photography and attended the University of Maryland to study Engineering. Even while studying Engineering and working as a Patent Engineer today I have always been able to find time to go out on adventures or walk around Baltimore to find new perspectives to find that perfect shot.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the main struggles that have affected my photography has been the creative block and the lack of motivation sometimes to go out and take photos. This put me into a cycle of watching and reading about photography more than actually practicing my craft, and leading me to believe that I needed better gear to take better photos.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve always been drawn towards the arts and was in a middle school program for visual arts at Baltimore School for the Arts. Once I was in Highschool I started to use my phone to take pictures of my surroundings and edit the photos I took. Eventually, I wanted to step up my game and get a DSLR, but with not having much money as a high schooler I was fortunate enough to receive a Canon DSLR for Christmas.
I then started taking photography a lot more seriously and started watching Youtube videos and reading books on how to excel with my craft. Over the years I have stuck with photography, getting better as time goes on.
Any big plans?
In the future, I hope to travel to keep expanding my landscape photography portfolio as well as shooting concerts as venues keep reopening. As my portfolio expands I plan to keep posting my content online to expand my reach and ensure more exposure to the prints I have online for sale. Additionally, I plan to take a course to obtain my FAA license to utilize my photography drones better and safely record footage for events.
